So the swap starts today!

I'm going to get the engine hoist now and then i'm getting my engine around 4.

As soon as all that happens the swap will start. I'm going to try and make this as quick as possible! I'm hoping to have it done by tonight, but if not.. tomorrow night. I know it can be done!!

I'll post more up as it happens!

Update!

So far EVERYTHING is off the motor. I'll I need to do now is seperate the engine from the transmission (which is proving to be a pain in the ass).

Everything is going smooth except for the seperation.. I'm having a really hard time getting the motor and tranny apart.. anyone have any sugestions. (I've tried prying them apart with a flat head and a mallet.. but no luck i'm just gouging the hell out of my tranny. BTW yes. all of the bolts are removed.)

Do you have the tranny supported by a jack while you are trying to seperate it? Also is the starter off? Also what about the slave cylinder and clutch fork?

If both of those are true and no bolts are left in no reason it would be stuck. Will it seperate anywhere even a little? Pry it apart at the dowel pin locations on it.

Well the motor is out now.. the tranny and engine were just seized together.

Like I said before.. EVERYTHING was unbolted.. all 6 bolts and 2 nuts on the studs.. and also the starter.. I'm not that stupid. And you don't have to worry about the slave cylinder or the clutch fork because I have a push type clutch, not a pull type clutch like the WRX.. and yes I did have the tranny supported. I was doing everything right, they were just stuck together from 90K miles of wear.

so yea, the motor is out and the new one is waiting to go in. I won't be able to work on it again till Monday.. i'm hoping that it will be done then, but I wanted it done yesterday and that didn't happen.

So what did you do? Beat on it by the dowel pins?

Iheartsubarus

No.. we used a screwdriver and hammer and beat it apart at the top.. there was no way to beat on the dowel pins.. they were located in a ****ty spot.

Ahhhh. Sounds gay. Glad it is seperated finally.

Well the new motor is in.. Jeff and I did it last night.

Thereis only about two more hours of work left on the car.. I'm going to try and get it done tonight (hopefully).. but that's what I've been saying every night.. so I don't know anymore.

so.. here's another update.. I was putting in a new PCV and the intake cracked.. mother ****er!!!!

I have no idea how or why.. the crack is about an inch long and is right where the threads are on the PCV.

I got the PCV from Pep-boys.. so I don't know if there computer is ****ed up or something.. but I think it might have been a little too big.

So what should I do.. swap IM's or just put jb weld on it and go from there?

GrassyKnoll

i'd probly swap IMs and not risk it... but that's just me.

Iheartsubarus
08-15-2007, 08:33 PM
so I did swap the IMs.. and now the motor is DONE!

One small problem though.. battery is dead.. and Jon (proxy) and I tried to jump it.. with no luck.

Can't figure out why but it just won't jump.

did you check all your grounds, fuses, and all the wires and maybe check the battery with a volt meter.

So the Main fuse was blown (found by jeff).

Got the car running and it running s****ing awsome!!!

but now I have a new prblem.. clutch wont engage.. so.. can't drive it..

I've got a few thing that I am going to try.. because The clutch disk might be stuck to the pressure plate.

I had a clutch fuse to my flywheel once. No good, was a ***** to take apart plus had to buy new parts.

Iheartsubarus

Well all I really have to do is swap the clutch on the car right now with the clutch from my old motor.. but that means pulling the motor again.. which I really don't want to do.

Robk0000
08-19-2007, 05:01 PM
cant you just drop the transmisson?

Jasper
08-19-2007, 08:14 PM
haha i'll beat her to it

IT DRIVES

clutch is slipping at the moment, but its drivable. oughta stop slipping when she puts a few miles on it (clutch WAS siezed, so theres bound to be some corrosion / crap on the disc.

and rob: dropping the tranny = HUGE freakin project. its easy to just pull the motor lol.

Yes, the car does drive.. and rather nicely too..

I'm still undecided to whether or not I want to sell that car. I'm really hapy with it.. but at the same time I really hate it.

Sounds like my Forester and I. I've hated it's soul for a few years, but it just draws me back.

I'd say keep the RS for a while, pay it off, mod it some, just try to enjoy it. GCs won't be around forever.
