Is there any place around where I can just haul ass? I don't want to do an event or organized quarter mile, I just want to drive fast as hell. Is there any tracks in new england that hold open days or something? It would be cool to find a place sometime to do a top-speed run. Old airstrip perhaps?

I know of a dead runway we can make one quick run and then just bounce real fast from. I have been doing it for years.

I wish I could find a place to practice techniques on. Like grab some cones and set up a hairpin. Sweeping S. Various slalom types.
Even some Emergency avoidance.

sounds fun, where at?
One could always wait till winter and go flat out across some lake or something. Thats been something i've always wanted to do. It's probably very unsafe, but it'll still be fun as hell!
Anyone have a hook-up at pease? i'd LOVE to get on that run way, even for 10 minutes!!

There is a landing strip in Lebanon Maine at New England Skydive.
He let me take my Turbo Mazda out on it.... I hit 145 and still had plenty of room to slow down.

I'd suggest you get into HPDE open track days. It's pretty cheap, local, and best of all, you won't kill anyone.

can't somebody just buy some land and pave a strip for us. maybe a half mile strip, and a large parking lot?

haha I was thinking the same thing. What would be the legal ramifications of opening such a thing? If people signed a waiver, would it be air tight or would there still be legal issues. SCS should open a place that will do that :)

theres always ways around waivers and such. when i buy a house, im making sure to get lots of land. i'd building a dirt course and i'm going to pave a little lot.

Not sure, specifically, but the closest regular track is NHIS. Take a look at the SCCA schedule, www.ner.org (http://www.ner.org), the NASA guys do Lime Rock alot, www.nasaproracing.com (http://www.nasaproracing.com), etc., to see what's going on this season.

Oh yeah - if you swing out 395 where it breaks off to route 6 and takes you into RI - there is probably a 5+ mi stretch of highway before it turns to back roads... its relatively straight and you get a good 3 mile stretch where you can everything clear as days. In 4 years of driving it I never saw a cop and slugged out some decent speeds in my MR2.
