View Full Version : Patriot Subaru gave me the stiff arm tactic

Checking out a couple options tonight down at Patriot, don't get me wrong, love that place as a dealership, think they're a pretty good bunch of guys, bought my first car there, but wow did they ever try to push a sale tonight.
I was checking out an 07 CGM STI leftover as well as the 08 Legacy GT Spec B they had sitting in the showroom. I had them talked down to $33,500 on the Spec B, STI isn't really an option new, cause I'd rather buy a right used one rather than take that hit off the lot. What do you guys think about the Spec B? Anyone else seen one?

why not?
not criticizing or disagreeing, just looking for some honest opinions and thoughts, trying to decide myself personally

ROFL, I have an STi... and I wish my car had half the stuff amy's Leg does....
wow my car can go fast, but hers has heated wippers, when you open the sun roof you dont have to hold the button like you have to in the STi...
just little stupid things, but things that would make me buy a Legacy over an STi
*edit* theres other things I just cant think right now, its too early :)

It's no brainer. You create a table in MS WORD, one column for each vehicle. Put pluses and minuses for Spec B vs. STi.
Given price is almost the same for both vehicle, I don't know what kind of person would choose Spec B. Maybe someone who enjoys smooth ride. Or person who prefers leather seats over nicer handling vehicle. Or person who is retired.

The insurance money saved by getting the legacy will make up your mind.
I'm sure of that.
+ if you add about $2500 to the legacy you can get a dyno tuned beast that will keep up with an STi.
Seriously... get an insurance quote for both vehicles.

when i chcked with state farm it wasnt that much cheaper for me to go leggy over STI and right now im in the highest risk catagory! In 2 months I lose my accident on the record (been 3 years) and I get safe drivers back again. Ill be paying $2000/yr to insure the STi :) (and they cover all of my MODs.... reason enough to swith to State Farm?)

Spec B for $33k? Holy crap.
Buy a '05 with light miles for $18k and be done with it. It's 97% the same car and the $15k in savings is huge. Spec B is not worth the dough.

I almost went for a 07 spec b instead I picked up a leftover 06 sti.
I drove both and I'm glad I went for the sti.

Screw the whole thing. Buy a 98 2.5RS and swap the whole drivetrain . Perfect!

You saw what happened to SOLUTION in Dover after flooding, swap is not worth it unles you can get it done all by yourself without no headaches.

...which is why a ~05 LGT is the best choice in this thread.

After you do the swap you can insure the car accordingly. No big deal.

Holy crap...I must be old. I pay half of that a year for the leggy and my truck!! I dont remember it being that bad when I was young.

I looked at the stì, wrx and a leggy all in one day. no offense.... but the wrx interior is plain.... I like to have all the goodies and not have to worry about being followed by cops. I guess what I'm getting at is that the leggy gives you more of a sleeper look. if you want you can take the space shuttle for a spin. once you see the potential you will be sold for sure.

So I almost bought a used STI, in fact, I signed the papers and everything, even had insurance lined up, but God was really working for me to not get that car because the next day I got accepted into the graduate optometry school program in boston I've been trying to get into, so I don't think I'll be getting any car now. Just not necessary in the city. End reason why I didn't get the car: they didn't have the title from the bank yet. Go figure, knew it happened for a reason though.
Either way, if someone wants a used STI. At Prime Hyundai/Toyota/Nissan in Saco, Maine there is an 06 WRB STI with 4,500 miles on it. The price we had agreed on was $27,600 out the door (no taxes, would have paid tax in MA), full tank of gas (it was on absolutely empty) yada yada. Mint interior, couple easily easily poppable dents in the exterior. Oh well, so that's the scoop.

Legacy all the way. its nice not having everyone and their momma staring at the penny racer wing.
the 05 is the best bet I'd say.
Besides if the performance difference is what is holding you back isnt that what aftermarket parts and tuining are for. It would be much more fun and rewarding to build the Legacy. But opinions are like Booty-holes ya know

+1. evergreen has a beautiful 2005 Red GT 5 speed with like 18k on it. Keep the extra money in your pocket.

well like i said above, i really doubt i'll be getting anything now, except a bicycle, school is more important to me, cause when i get out, i won't have to make decisions between STI's and SpecB's, i'll just get both of them lol
