I wasn't going to mention this here, but it is something to think about.

1 lady was killed, and the tire was going so fast, it pummeled into haulers and equipment smashing things.

it is a nervous thing to see..that dragster tire stretching, eveyrthing open all around.
I wonder what rules are going to come forward now....

The irony of commenting just yesterday of a chevelle I had losing a wheel on the highway..

so now you got flame throwing fuels, blowers that can send bullets..and what appears to be the biggest parts of all...the rear wheels...with a chance to fly right off the car.

Anybody go to drag races?

this also reminded me of the paranoia about peugeot wheels on the old subes. The lug nuts that work are bigger than a 3/4 ton and even 1 ton truck.
I broke a rear end and dragged one sideways...
The under dog prevails yet again with facts...

With the HP some of the drag cars have... accidents are bound to happen. Things break. I doubt you'll see any rule changes because of this.

Hell, I was watching an Indy car race several years back (The one Dane Cook referred to in one of his acts) and watched a wheel fly out over the fence into the stands. They never mentioned that tire during the broadcast, but it went sailing over, clear as day. Nothing changed.

All in all, it's a tragic thing when it happens, but it's a fact of life in any dangerous sport... people can get hurt. :(

Crazy. My dad and I go to a number of drag races every year. This year we'll be attending the NHRA Full Throttle Series events at Englishtown NJ and Reading PA.

In the 8 or so years we've been attending races, I've seen plenty of wall contact, a couple cars flip, a few engines blow (including Ashley Force's car explode last year at Reading), a supercharger cap get thrown 50 feet in the air, a number of transmissions pop, and a car rigged with dynamite blow up with a guy inside.

Thus far, I have not seen a single person get killed. It does happen from time to time - its the reason they shortened the track length to 1000ft due to Scott Kalitta's death at Englishtown in 08 - but it's an even rarer occurrence that a bystander gets killed.

There's accidents that could have been prevented and then there are freak accidents that happen one in a million times.

I've seen an open wheeled cars' wing go flying off into the stands. They mentioned it when it happened, then surprisingly never again during the race. Carbon fiber board flying into the stands at high speed, I'm sure that didn't end well.
