View Full Version : Is my STi wing legit?

I just picked up a used 2006 STi wing on the cheap, so I figure it's fake even though the guy claimed it was OEM.
Does anyone have any pic comparisons, or serial numbers or something I can look at?

can you post up a pic of the underside? so we can see the mounting points... is it primer or painted allready?

It's painted, but it doesn't look like an OEM white.
The whole wing is essentially 3 pieces (top wing, bottom wing, LED light) I noticed on some STi pictures that they are 4 pieces (top wing, bottom wing, LED light, little piece under light)

See the piece under the light?

mine is just a solid piece:

The shape of the space the LED light goes into is totally different too when you compare them. But idk if it has something to do with what version it is, or region it came from.
and here is the underside:

I'm okay if it's a fake because of the price I paid, but it seems too well put together to be some ebay knock off.
Supposedly it came off of a stock 2006 Canadian Sti.

looks like a fake to me man, the stock sti spoiler has 17 mounting points (studs and plastic clips)
but that does look like a good replica

Yeah, not enough mounting points, but it looks pretty high quality. Also, STi wings on bug eyes FTW!

Yea, I don't think it's a legit OEM wing but that is really a solid replica.

I think 10 mounting points on this wing are enough for me! thanks guys. =]

look under the top wing part, see if its adjustable. (long strip with bolts)
Shiux

I don't know what you mean by adjustable? I'm 99% sure it's a fake because of the lower amount of mounting bolts.
yup - an aftermarket - does not have the mounting strip for optional splitters

Fake or real, it looks to be pretty good quality in the pics, no one will ever notice!

Thats what I was thinking  just make sure you seal the spoiler to the trunk really well, don't want any leaks

I actually started measuring it today. Gotta wait for paint though. Red car + White wing = the new carbon fiber though right? =P

Took off the WRX wing, put the "STi" wing on (without the studs obviously)
Car looks like crap because I haven't washed it, damn neighbors cat keeps walking on it with its muddy paws. I'm about to leave some coolant outside in a dish... =O

oh yea and I took the tint off of my tail lights. Between the BOV, Exhaust and soon to be wing, I don't need any more obvious reasons to get pulled over!

Question: how many studs hold this replica STi wing onto the trunk? From the picture you supplied it looks like this wing mounts onto a WRX trunk and reuses the existing holes.
FWIW, the bottom may very well be a replica so that it can be mounted onto a WRX trunk w/o any additional holes being drilled, but I wonder if the top-half is OEM?
Also, when you do mount it consider purchasing some single-sided foam-tape, called 'closed cell foam tape'. Put some onto the underside of the base so that when its finally mounted that when it does flex a little here and there that it does not squeak, rattle, or damage the paint on either the trunk itself or the wing (even if you don't see it).
Looks good and hope to see new pics of the wing painted and mounted on the car. :)

It actually has like 14 spots for studs, but they are removable (like head studs) I only plan on using 10 as that is how many were on it when I received it.
So it could actually mount to the exact same holes as OEM STi, or you could remove all but the 4 the WRX uses. I'd be afraid of it flying off though. There has to be a reason OEM uses so many more. Plus, the OEM wing (atleast mine) has those braided steel lines that bolt it to the trunk. This doesn't.
It has really new condition foam "gaskets" on it to keep it from damaging/squeaking, but I might replace them before install.
EDIT* yea I live on Parkway (bottom of poet seat tower)

You want some spare stuff for mounting the spoiler you can have it. I have my 2006 spoiler still in my shed. It has most of the bolts and clips you need to mount the spoiler. I also have an STI rear parcel shelf if you are interested so you can get rid of your third brake light.

Do the parcel shelf at least, I hate when cars have 4 brake lights, haha!
