Just make spacers out of MDF its really easy to do. Go to crutchfield.com to find the exact measure for your car but I do believe it is 5 1/4. You can easily put 6.5 components in with the Kartboy speaker spacers and a small homemade spacer. I recommend JL Audio VR650csi they have great mid bass and the highs are awesome for the price($150.00). Make sure you take the time to do your research on the any thing your going to buy, save some serious $$ in the future.

If you're looking for "good quality" speakers Alpine is not a great starting place...
Look at Morel and Dynaudio for higher quality drivers.

I think a large part of it depends on the music you listen to and how picky you are about the sound you get out of your system. Alpine make good products but there are so many better companies.

I wouldn't buy direct from them. Try going through like Crutchfield.com or ... damn what was the place I used to look at? Anyways go through a vendor. One, places like Crutchfield will be able to give you all the vehicle specific instructions and hardware along with help you figure out what package or put together a package that's right for you. And if you hit a snag while installing they can provide tech support.

I'm not saying that alpine is a bad company, but their drivers wouldn't be my first choice in any scenario. There's a reason even their component speaker sets are less than $200 MSRP.
It ultimately comes down to what you listen to and are looking for in a car stereo. If SPL is your goal, I suppose anything will do. If accurate sound reproduction and good sound quality is what you're after you might want to stray away from the stuff you can find at Walmart and Best Buy...

They're certainly in a different price range, but for a reason.

keep your stock tweets... trust me! the Alpine tweets suck unless you run them through a clean sweep or an amp.
They are waaaaaay to loud and will annoy you.

I like the way this man thinks!
Good is all relative, you should really be putting out a price range. I agree with above that 'good' speakers are usually north of $600 and great speakers are north of $1000, then there are Utopias...
I agree with the above selctions if you are looking for something in that range. I would recommend Boston Acoustics, there low end (<$300) speakers sound better than most.

if you want slightly better than stock, get alpines.
If you want good sound, dish out the coin and take the above advice.

this.
Like SilverGSX said, they are a good company but it all depends on your needs/wants in a system. I would recommend Crutchfield since its your (i think) first time doing an audio install. Also if you dont feel comfortable doing the install your self, support a local company and have them do it.

I just put diamond audio M3 5-1/4 in my 02 front and rear. I had to mod the back of the door panles a little, but with the right spacer they would have fit without the mods.
I prackitcly stole them at $60 a set.
I like the diamond audio stuff I have 2 of there subs and now 4 sets of there speakers in my cars and I love them.

If you dont know this please do some research, (not trying to be an ass) If your going to invest in something for your car just do some basic google searches to get familiar with what your buying. It will allow you to better understand what your installing. Which will help you out when your all done installing it and you are trying to tune your system to your need.
even a 1/2 inch spacer?
When I helped a friend install alpine's they came with a small spacer, if your going to run a 6.5 driver then your going to need just a little over a half inch spacer (depending on the speaker of course)

I run a slightly older set of 6.5 MB Quarts in the front of a good alpine deck. and 5.25's in the rear. Not too expensive but great sound!
Theres a lot of good options around, you just have to search them out. This day and age you dont have to spend $500 on a set of componants to get great quality sound.

I know in my 06 sedan I have 6.5" up front infinity's there great. And 4" kenwood's in the back. Only problem is and Idk if you have run into it yet, is the depth. In my car I need to have a max depth of 2" other wise my windows hit my speaker. They will either "push" the speaker a bit as it goes down or just hit it and stop. So i'm replacing mine atm and finding some decent 2" depth speakers. Try this website, I had a couple of Subaru guys at wrk tell me to buy stuff from here.
