Help! Stock 09 WRX brakes on the track?
(http://skism.org/cmc/posting.php?mode=quote&p=57354) I'm not a suby guy. I'm posting for my brother. He has an 09 Subaru WRX. I have reason to believe that the stock brakes are not up to the task of a track day. I'm not sure he takes that worry seriously, and I can't really say anything on the subject with any authority. I'd feel terrible, having gotten him into this, if he stuffed his car up from brake fade. We will be swapping in some 600F dry boil point fluid even if I have to buy it and do the work to make it happen, but I worry the pads are totally insufficient as well. I had the front pads smoking on a street test drive...

Feedback on stock 09 WRX brakes on the track? Hearsay is better than nothing...

What are the cheapest track capable, safe for the street pads available for that car...? I assume swapping pads is easy?

Doing this event is probably pushing the "car fun" budget for him pretty bad, especially after buying track day insurance. I don't want to talk him into expensive pads for a once or twice in a lifetime activity if he doesn't need them, but I also don't want to see him stove his car up, or have to leave the track early due to overheating up for the lack of investing a few $ into some better pads.

this was asked on CMC and i dont know the answer so could someone let me know if he will be ok?

It should be fine if he keeps track of the conditions of the pedal feel and such. If he dives into a corner and the brakes start fading, and he realizes this and takes it easy it should be fine. Or if he runs out and does just a few laps at a time.

I ran the RS at SLMP last summer on HPS pads (street pads, not very ideal for track use.) They worked great for a few laps here and there, it wasn't until I went out for a long session on the track that they were getting a little unhappy. After a few laps it was getting hairy, but I just brought the car back to the pits and let it sit, then went back out. This was also using a WRX brake setup about an inch larger than stock, and on a car with less power and weight.

If you can find a set of Hawk HP+ pads, they would probably be a good bet.
