I'm turning 20 this month an the state of maine sent me a paper saying I have to have a doctor fill it our an complete it, because when I first got my licence when i was 16 my doctor/mom diagnosed me with a made up illness called ADHD, Now they're requiring me to go to the doctor to have a report made up saying im good enough to drive.
This is all fine an dandy, except I dont have health insurance. I also have never drove while on medication for ADHD, as its a bs excuse for me being lazy in highschool:rofl: It says on the back of my licence "must take certain medications"
I don't have the money to pay out of pocket to go visit my doctor, who is a pediatrician (give you an idea how long its been since I have gone, about 2 years)
Are there any free clinics or something? I have a 100% clean driving record. Im completely ripped right now because my mum made me have that on my licence. An now its going to screw me over. Hardcore. Ideas?
The penalty to not filing this paper is a suspension of licence.

Free clinic? I doubt you'll find one. Unless a planned parenthood establishment could help you.

I meant not to be ironic, I don't know of any free doctors, are you a Veteran?

Im not, I just wasnt sure if there were some kind of clinics, this is all new to me. An it irks me because I have a 100% clean driving record that they require me to submit paper work like im some kind of dwi offender checking in once in awhile to keep a valid licence. I would understand If I had a few speeding tickets or any other numerous operation offenses, but I don't. I've never been pulled over ever. An because I dont have health insurance, I feel like im being punished.
Curious if there is a way to submit to the state, even though I never had taken medication for "ADHD" that I was no longer taking medication an have a new licence issued without the "must take certain medications" on the back of my ID.

make some calls to an independent. state your case.
I went through heck and back medically, nothing bothered my license...
once a doctor has a chance, they will diagnose..thinking of you as a return customer. Find a source not related to anything that brought the original bogus stuff about in the first place, like me and alot of people, you can straighten this out in a hurry. A doctor argues with a doctor.. everyone else evenin coommon sense, all the way to the top judges of the greatest courts has to sit back and take in the quibble. It is amercias great crimes of today, stay patient. (a pun there for you.)

i dont think adhd impares your driving skill in any way.

I'd be borderline violent. Have you talked to yr rents about this and having them cover the cost, since it was their ridiculous request to have you forced to be called a "suffer of adhd". I'm with you, its fake. I was told I have/had it also. Guess what.. Turns out I was just reeaallly bored (and probably stoned) throughout school. They forced this burden on you, they should be the ones to take it off. Worst case, try what boxer3 said and see if you can get just a free consultation or something and have the paper filled out. Worst case, talk to the registry and see what they can do for you.

I was also "diagnosed" with it, not sure how real it is or not, but I get super distracted really easily. Before I started riding motorcycles it definitely affected my driving, but I never realized it until the bikes, which force you to pay attention to EVERYTHING going on around you. So now of course I usually do the same in cars.:D

that is pretty much GHEY IMHO...
By having that on Ur license U have now opened the door to talking to each and every law enforcement officer about UR medical condition when they see UR license: Something I now get to deal with as well and something that is NOT their business unless UR visibly impaired.
ya know a diagnosis of a disease is one thing, having it bad enough to require medication and the loss of driving rights is another. And well who is to say U really have ADD, it honestly could be as easy a an undetected food allergy such as what my step daughter has: They tried to put her on ADHD meds after two doctor visits: all it took was the careful elimination of ONE food item that sets her off, in less than two years she has become an honor roll student and ahead of the curve instead of behind it. Any idea how many people on this planet have bodies that will NOT allow them to process some of the crap put into todays mass made foods? My step daughters allergy is to Red Dye in EVERY FORM which exists in most every food, the bigger companies (IE Kraft) are the WORST...
What about people who are required to take aspirin everyday to maintain their blood? Do they need to put that on their license as well?
Man I hate this, especially since it is in Maine... I know from a medical standpoint I have certain qualifications, ones that they are discussing databasing state wide; something I am not at all fond of for fear of loosing some of my rights someday in the future... :( what if I move to a state that does not recognize my condition? Am I left to suffer a painful fate?
Personally I would find a doctor and ASAP.... A good one, one who has dealt with UR diagnosis and who has an approach OTHER than an amber vial full of drugs... If all they want to do is "dose U" then walk away. Find someone who will work with U to get to the root cause, not someone who wants to mask UR symptoms behind a veil of medication... never EVER forget, a doctor is like a mechanic, plumber, landscaper... they are just a little more educated but THEY WORK FOR U.....something people forget. DO NOT be afraid to "fire" UR care provider, I just told one to "beat it" after offering my anti-depressants for pain, not even a nerve ending related pain so they would not work....this ass just wanted me medicated so he could move onto the next one.
I'd also advocate some ancient oriental art-form as a method of relaxing the soul and concentration, it never hurts to be "pro-active"....
ps: I think a clinic up here will infact want to check Ur financial records to make sure U qualify for free care.... not sure though.

This is my exact sentiment. I will get to the bottom of it, whether by being un diagnosed. Or trying to convince the state that I NEVER have taken the drugs to begin with. Its going to be a battle I can feel it in my bones, but there are so many unsafe people on the road, an they can still drive. Why come after me.

oh man I COULD NOT AGREE MORE.... I bet if U went to a doctor who was familiar with said diagnosis he/she could tell within ten minutes...

This whole situation is ridiculous. ADHD doesn't impair driving at all. There are far many worse problems out on the road than someone driving down the road with ADHD. I hope everything can get resolved for you quickly!
