if we do it - it would be a good idea for the kid from midas to come - what's his screen-name again?

running a garage isn't worth the hassle or trouble. believe me.

Damage report is in (from 1st garage meet, rookie mistakes). Drivers side cam was off by three teeth, causing bad misfiring on cylinder #4 and slight misfire on #2 (probably used wrong mark as there was 2 on that cam sprocket). Some gay stupid gaurd behind the timing cover was installed backwards and eventually would have cause very premature failure as it was rubbing the belt.
Ok so we learned a bit for the future. Also, don't attempt t-belts w/o cam sprocket clamps. to hold everything so we don't have to fight valve springs and get pissed off.
WeldingHank
04-13-2010, 10:30 PM
3 teeth? very lucky there wasn't any valve damage. I'm suprised it ran well enough to drive.
Nick D
04-13-2010, 11:42 PM
Oh yea sometimes the mis was so slight, it seemed like it had a funky ignition wire or something, sometimes it took 3-4 days for the ECU to even detect a misfire. Shes a champ.
Now that's its timed right, the biggest thing I noticed is how quiet it runs. Didn't loose a whole lot of power, did seem a bit wimpy. But damn I got used to that motor droning on the freeway.
yup - clamps would have been clutch!!!
also - since weldinghank can't make it the next garage meet :(
jbowling88 has offered to help us with silver bullet's/legacy_STI's timing belt this week :D

I'm good with audio sistems , I instal all my amps and radios also friends and family and the cars being working fine , the only think is that you have to get a battery with more amps or a capacitorto hve an extra bust and help your alternator to rest , I use more amps in the baattery but many people use the capacitor's so is on your preferences.

Yup - had her running beautiful for about a week then had to install a new clutch - then had her running for a full weekend when i spun the bearing - :(

Well - suppossed to be getting the heads back today or tomorrow - then it's just a matter of gauging and installing the appopriate buckets for the valves - hopefully i can swing all the correct sizes without having to order any. The quicker I can do that the quicker I can get the motor in
SW20 - MR2 t67-25G
Gotta reconnect the shifter cables and find a dowl for the speedometer cable. Half shafts need to be regreased and the ball bearings re-fitted. After that we'll get the axles in and bolt on the headers/turbo/downpipe. Berk exhaust should be arriving towards the end of October - then it's an AEM tune and a road test. After that hit the dyno/track - hoping to make 325whp and get into the high 12's low 13s.

It's 50/50 when it comes to the "break in period" of a turbo'd motor. Some builders say break it in gradually, some say break it in normal. I know a few people that broke their motors in at regular boost (15+psi) and a few that did around 7psi. My friends that didn't baby it still saw perfect compression and sometimes even better.

Yeah - I'm not gonna track it or anything, but now that I've got 1,300 miles and a tune I think I'm gonna drive it the way I plan on driving it normally from here on in  - Oil change intervals is at 1,000 miles right now and then I'll go 2,000 and then I'll leave it at 2,500/change. I'm probably gonna flush out the coolant in the spring too.
Gonna have to push off the Mr2 for about another couple weeks - gotta a GTSpec UEL perf headers install on the 05 STI next on the list - prob Sunday Nov 21st

ADVICE:
if you can, bolt the UP on to the header before you install it.
Once it's installed the 1-4 section and the bottom of the heads prevent you from getting to the top UP bolt (there are 3). technically, you can get to it by removing the triangle shaped cover in the wheel well but you won't be able to use a rachett or cresent wrench on the top bolt.

This is the wagon that was for sale last week. I picked it up. Very clean with all the bells and whistles - wheels/roof rack/premium sound/etc - just has an issue with cylinder 1. We're gonna bring her back to life OEM style.
Piston Rings
Head Gaskets
Valve Cover gaskets
Intake Manifold gaskets
New hoses were needed
New clamps and crush washers everywhere
Cold start fuel leak fix
Clutch kit
Fluid change (coolant, oil, gear oil, diff)
Spark plugs
Timing Belt & Pulleys
Water pump
Air filter
and whatever else she needs - i'm determined to see this baby put to good use by someone who appreciates a good wagon

Nice hero! Glad you got to pick this baby up.
Thanks - debating on the oil pump - been talking to a bunch of dealers and apparently they never really see failed oil pumps - they usually just change them when something else fails and they have to pull the motor - we'll see
Also - this would be a good time for anyone who is willing to buy to pm me for special requests while the motor is out -
Also anyone who wants to take this home as a hybrid with a new OEM 2011 STi shortblock let me know now - total price for the wagon with a hybrid motor and all the trimmings will fall right around $10,500.
or let me know if you're interested in installing a turbo upgrade, injectors, headers etc. pricing would just be for parts at this point cause the motor is already out
here's the original 2.0 block freshened up a bit with a little steam bath and some lovin :D -
