Well.... Went for a nice cruise Sat afternoon to Hampton beach with a few car peeps. Had a great drive there and well coming back I think I blew my motor... I will know more today or tomorrow. but I don't think it's going to be good. I had to tow it to Ballistics. If thats the case... my car will not be at any subie meets, WBM, Import Face off.... :unamused:

I was at Scott's on Monday night, sounds like a rod/bearing issue to me. But he wasn't quite sure at the time. We went to scan the code and it was erased at some point, started it for a couple seconds and turned it off...I'm no expert though.
GL though, just think, only thing after motor is transmission :unamused:

Well, you can always repair what's broken now and start collecting parts for a build over the summer. That way you still have a car to roll around in.

Well I was trying to keep up with Brian with 441whp and Brandon that has I think around 400whp. So I was pushing my car...I never slam or drop my gears since I dont want to bust my tranny. nor do I redline it... but I was in 4th gear hauling a$$, I never went over 7rpm.. Kinda like in 4th gear going 65 to 90 slow down put it on 5th, till Brian passed me I put it back in 4th hit the gas hit around 100 rmh when I caught up slowed down... just kinda tooling on the highway. Nothing too extreme, not like I was rallying... I think it was just the torque when i had it in 4th gear for a while..
I felt the car lose a little bit of power so I rolled my windows up and turned off the radio. there was a slapping noise, as i was getting ready to pull over i was losing more power, when i got to the side of the road my car died. would not start back up, when i tried starting it up the motor was shaking like something was off balance. when we fianlly started it there was a banging noise so we turned it off... ::sigh::

If i was to upgrade to a larger turbo I would perosnlly go no larger than a GT3071 or GT3076R. The 71R spools up a few hundred rpm quicker than the 76R. Of course still going to be lag but with the proper tune you'll still be able to enjoy a nice power band.

Hate to be the one to mention it but watch the tranny or just know you may need an additional few $1000's to deal with that if you go bigger. I know from first hand experience. I'm curious on the cost of the build...sounds sweet!

Cuz save up for a 6 speed. Every one that I know who built a 5 speed borke it with a 2.5 hybrid. The 6 speeds can be found as low as 2500 for an 04-05 and you can swap in a 3.90 R160 to keep the cost down so that you don't have to upgrade to bigger hubs and brakes.

Save and keep eyes open for the 6 speed Ash. There are deals on them from time to time if you catch one at just the right time.
I'm going to try. I'm kinda scared to look up in Nasioc..

well. My car is finally in the shop! YEAY!!!!! So they should start taking things apart soon. I just ordered the Garrett 3071R turbo. That turbo should make me happy! Also! I should make a different thread for this..... but Chris at EFI stated: the 16 bit ECU in my car is restricted to the amount of power I can make, once I exceed the maximum power, I will need to go stand alone, or piggy back such as UTEC (Which we do not tune). This is my new problem right here....

you don't have to change hubs!
Here is exactly what you need with prices:
Keep your Hubs/Brakes Option 2 (Cheapest)
You will need: 06/07 USDM Transmission $4-$4400, mounts $100, 2002-2007 WRX AUTOMATIC drive shaft $500, R160, axle stubs $20, clutch plate, flywheel, throw out bearing, shift fork,Shift linkage, 04 STI axles seals, circlips, fluids, boot grease kit About $200 for all
that's for new stuff ;)
I'm going with new tranny, used shaft. Should cost me under $4500

Mine, and a few other (all 2002) buddies' motor had died this year so far.
I'm also doing a hybrid build. But going with a vf39 to start out on. Kinda want the 5spd to some what last until I have the cash to dump on a 6spd, this whole 5spd weakness scares me on my future autocross endevors with a torque monster.
Good luck with the build!

Lucky mine was at the office.. That was a whole lot of AAA moving the car here to there, started off with just suspention but low oil pressure + me bounceing off the rev limiter in autocross + 130K miles = I havent driven my car sense new years. Unless you count the time I drove it from north end of town to the south after putting on new shocks/springs, and control arm, and listening to my crank bearing shot with the fork wacking all around.. If ya count that, then I drove it once sense new years eve
I am having Rob at EFI build the engine, got to the point where I just want to give it to good hands and get the damn thing done. Also right, sense I want the thing to last another 100k miles
Chris at EFI is also going to tune it. He did a great autocross map for me, made more power on stock boost then I did on cobb's stage 2 map (not stock boost)
As seen in the video, my front quarter good a good wack, and I am sure the tranny is tweaked, or hopefully the seal is just craped. I also wanted to do the tranny first before a engine build.. I guess that plan has changed. For now I will just run 560CC and a vf39. **** my tranny!!!

Machining heads takes about 4 hours and block work can be done relatively quickly from what i've seen :)

overkill anyone? i'm hoping this will be a 600hp monster. otherwise, probably a waste of cashola. I thought she was shooting for less than 400 at the wheel? :spin:

My subie is Finally running!! :D The reason it took so long is because I kept ordering parts and we were waiting for other parts that were on back order to come in, Also trying to save money to buy parts.... lol
My bearings went in my car, nothing too too bad, so I was able to use my 2.0 heads. I havent been on the forum in a while nor driving my subie because I have been dealing with some issues.. :unamused:

Ya know sometimes you come off as a D-bag Eric :spin::D ... First you were ragging on me because I bought GTspec header, you told me my subie will now sound like a honda... You chuckeled because i'm going to get tuned at EFI... Now you're sayin overkill anyone?? I am getting the 2.5 block honed because it's brians old sti block... of course I am going to get it honed..... It's used.. My goal is to hit 400whp... Will I get there?? not sure...

I know, I was talking to Meg about "hone and sleeves" a while ago, but I decided not to do it at the last min. Hence me not Posting it up here. Just how Eric stated everything. What if I did do the sleeves... Why would it be overkill...??? I have known Eric for a while now.. Just stating he sounds like a D-bag, Doesnt mean I hate him and ill never talk to him again.....lol

No douchebaggery intended, but like stated earlier it appeared from megs post that you were overstrengthening things, but we talked about it after when we were snapping pics at that lot. I expected a hone too, so it was just about the sleeving. ;) And I chuckle about EFI, just because my pockets aren't deep enough. don't be offended, I still love ya'.

Still love ya too Eric!!!! Lol yeah I don't have that much money!!! Otherwise I would be passing brian!! buhahahahah... But to me its worth getting tuned at EFI since my first tune was by TDC who recked my car.. Chris does a great job and I trust him with my subie
