i'm definitely going to go see this

on another note..

do you have blu-ray already? it's really annoying that there is both blu-ray and hd dvd, one won't succeed, and i already have a bunch of good movies on dvd, i hate spending that kind of money to change over what i think is a good collection, i'm going to wait it out i think

either 1) buy a player that plays both
2) wait 1-2 years, when a clear winner will come out, or a whole new format will destroy the competition

please don't buy one that plays both. The more people that buy the ones that play both, the longer the battle between them will continue.

On account of the fact that Blu-Rays are like 400+ and I got an HD-DVD for like $160 that made that decision easy. I've just been renting HD movies so I don't have to put up the investment until one wins the battle. If I end up losing my $160 on a bad format, well I've had worse investments in the past. Who cares...

i can almost guarantee no one will win this war for at least 3-4 years regardless because the common consumer has not moved to HDTV and especially HD movies... there is already a "bigger" format available now so I bet something else ends up winning out once the market actually has a demand for these sorts of products.

by the way, if anyone has a 360 and wants to go HD DVD, you can get one now for about 160 + 5 free movies

blu-ray is a better system as you can fit way more information on it. but i think hd will win because of the porn industry. we all know what happend to betamax.

the price barrier to BR is so high for the 'common' consumer. I think DVD is here to stay for at least 2-3 more years.

Can we take the post of the debate from the Superbad review and move them here?

Just found some good info on the Blueray vs HD debate!

not on this forum too...I see this thread everywhere now LOL!

anyways that basically spells out that blu ray disks are more vulnerable to skip or not work, because the lines are so tightly packed. So if you scratch the disk your ****ed. Same with HD dvd but not as anal.

My opinion, HD dvd will be farmore popular! Why? Well if you come up to my summerhouse and ask the dude at walmart if they have any blu ray disks, he would be like, we got blu light speical. Hill billys! they dont know **** about technology and i dont think they will adapt, most people know what HD is and DVD now if you put them together obviously you have high def dvd's. Not complicated, but with blu ray its safeto say that the stupid person would be like blu ray, WTF is that? (my opinion)

if you have a 360 or a ps3 you may as well just let that dictate which one you get. Obviously if you have PS3, blu-ray built in or get the HD-DVD player for the 360. if you ebay it i think you'll end up paying less than a regular player.

If all else fails, go HDDVD. $180 vs. $480.. price speaks for itself.

if you read the link, it says that bluray is actually harder to scratch. its a fair superior design, it just that sony is a bunch of selfish ****s and dont want to lend the technology out to anyone else.

thats why games usually look so much better on 360, because microsoft gives information, and samples to their game designers, so they know how to program according to the technology. sony is scared someone will try and steal it, and wont allow samples or info to help the game designers.

bluray FTW, sony FTMFL

Bestbuy is selling the Toshiba A3 HD DVD player today for $199 + 2 free movies in the box, 3 free movies in the store, and 5 free movies by mail in rebate.

199$ for the player and 10 movies. Cant even get those kind of prices with a normal dvd player, at least not from Toshiba. GO HD DVD!

Hate to bring back such a dead thread but I was left behind in the tech scene long ago.

Just got myself a 37" Olevia HDTV yesterday. It has 2 hdmi hook ups, right now I have one hooked up to my Comcast DVR box and the other is free. I have an older 5 disc dvd player from about 5 years ago so it only has RCA's and S-Video. I was looking into a new dvd player that has HDMI.

What should I get? I have an xbox 360, but not one with the hdmi hook-up. I saw the hd-upconverter dvd players, any good?

School me on what I should get.

Well, its tough. They are still competing. I didnt think Blue ray would last this long, but it has. And many movies are still coming out on both formats. As far as the differences between the two, I dont think there is much, IMO. I have a blue ray player in my ps3, which I really love. Since i got the 50" plasma, i have watched a few blue ray movies, and they are SICK. Ill read on some other forums and see what else I can come up with for you.
