Like the early EJ22, this engine is also a non-interference design, which means that if the timing belt fails no engine damage occurs. Opposed boxer six cylinder engine, 3.3 liter displacement. This engine appeared in the Subaru SVX, available in the US from 1992 through 1997. This engine is basically an EJ22 with an extra bank of cylinders, and the engines share some parts. These engines throughout production were rated at 230 hp at 5400 rpm and 228 lb-ft torque at 4400 rpm.
hows that?

weird thing is, at my work a buddy of mine pulled off a head on his EG33 that froze an idler pulley, and snapped the timing belt......what do you know, the valve crashed into the piston. i love the interwebz. :D just maintain the car, period.

I can check with AFBeefcake too....he might be able to answer that question. Since the SVX used to be his baby. I should have an answer shortly.

Aaron said its a non-intereference engine as far as he knows. I trust him on this. He's been taking care of the svx since before we met so I generally listen to him.

Hi. Yeah I didn't knownthe answer. My responce to Alex last night when he texted me was that it was a EJ22EZN bottom end + 2 cylinders and the front and top end is a EJ25D +2.
As much as I've learned and know car wise over the past years I still haven't looked into things like what interference means. :o

interference equals........t-belt/chain snap makes pistons and valves interfere with each other............SMASH!!!
