this is correct! since our turbos are water cooled we don't need the turbo timers as other models do since not all are water cooled ;)
Mine's not water cooled. :hide:

IIRC if you get a remote starter most have a turbo timer feature.

Seraphinwolf
03-01-2011, 08:12 PM
what's the difference between the normal OEM factory position turbo and just upgrading that turbo vs upgrading to a rotated turbo?
Lets start by responding to a question with a question. Which turbos are you looking at?-

I just don't see it hitting the 450-500 you want. Not, like I said, without meth.

wrxtuner82
03-01-2011, 08:55 PM
Not a fan of meth. Could be wrong but I don't think Brian is running meth, and everything I've read hasn't showed many cars in the 450-500 running meth

I'm not sure how Chad did a lot of things with his budget?? It baffles me to this day. Only thing I could come up with was I know he had awesome credit and about 9 credit cards with high limits, and like I said, he was famous for buying, building and near immediately selling.

I've been trying to catch up with Chad for 2 years trying to find out what he'd done to that car. Car was amazing. It's what lead me here. Otherwise I'd probably be trying to trick a Honda Accord instead.

hiprsha666
03-01-2011, 09:34 PM
Well, if he has an estimated 450 bhp then it would be more reasonable to run a stock 5mt. 450whp is a much different story. idk. He really ran that much on a stock 5mt?

Seraphinwolf
03-01-2011, 09:34 PM
Well I'm gonna say that Meth is actually the "safe" route for your goals. You key the system to only spray when you are in higher boost and have a large enough tank that you won't run out from getting BOV frisky going to the grocery store.
Really have a read and you'll find it's the safest means of still being on pump gas and managing those high numbers.

Crawford did say that it's near impossible to run 500 on pump gas. When we do my install in June, I foresee us talking about this during the day/night. I mean, meth isn't something that's coming up before I come home permanently in September, so I have some time to learn, and I can be educated much better in person with you guys

I was making 330 at the wheels on a 5 speed and look what happened. There are plenty of people and evidence out there that supports high HP on a 5 speed grenading. Look at Civicsi or who ever went to PPG on his five speed that blew up. used is fine. Ask randy about going with new parts.

All you need is the 6 speed (linkage, 6 speed clutch and flywheel sometimes come with the 6mt) compatible rear diff for your 6mt and driveshaft. Then if you want to control your DCCD look into the DCCD pro unit. You can do the whole swap for 4k.

There is a 6mt swap trhead on here..... http://www.newenglandsubarus.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13187&highlight=swap+thread

If you want to pay me 8k I will do it all for you.

I finished with that when you were still looking at new cars during "The Tree Fiasco!"
The newer transmissions are based on the LGT ones and hold way better BUT 450 is gonna murder the 5.

People who are quoting prices have to remember this is an 08'. 08'+ use a redesign in the trans and unless he wants to get a GDB 6speed and trade out the bell housing or find a Spec B trans the 6 is gonna cost him more.

I will play devil's advocate on reminding you about the DCCD though Connor.

will the OEM calipers suffice with the DBA 4000 series rotors and Hawk HP pads? Or should i upgrade the calipers? This is really specifically asked to Gary since he has the DBA's and a similar car, but I'm open to all opinions.

Seraphinwolf
05-03-2011, 06:19 PM
They will do just fine but you can upgrade the from calipers for cheap to the LGT calipers for more grip! Ask Hipresha about the rears though... And Gary has DBA 5000's from and 4000's rear like me.

hiprsha666
05-03-2011, 06:34 PM
Yes yes, lgt calipers and rotors can be had for the front inexpensively and it is a direct swap. I am still working on some issues with the rears.

wrxtuner82
05-03-2011, 07:14 PM
are they any better?

We wouldn't suggest them if they weren't.

wrxtuner82
05-03-2011, 07:18 PM

Seraphinwolf
05-03-2011, 07:21 PM
Yes. WAY more gripping force. Would be nice if we can get some pictured next to each other but they have more contact surface. Then again you could also go with some 06/07' WRX 4 pots and look nasty kindas of awesome! Not sure about the rears fitting though. The GH chassis changed the rear hubs so it's different with converting some parts.

wrxtuner82
05-03-2011, 07:29 PM
I love having disc brakes in the rear, gonna make it so much easier considering everything I've ever owned has been drum in the rear

wrxtuner82

hiprsha666

My invidia dp does not have a bung, so if you are doing a/f you might want to have it done ahead of time because it is easier that way.

AF won't really help you anyways. Go with the oil temp+ pressure, and boost

Anyone who really knows me knows that I literally CAN NOT stay out of boost. So my question is this. How badly would you suggest a tune after these parts:

Perrin CAI
TurboXS BOV
Invidia catless TBE

Depends, how badly do you want to blow up?

For you, instantly. In fact, have someone else drive the car to the tuner so you don't hit boost.

dude, think of spending a ****load of money on a new engine then see if you can stay out of boost. Is that 1st-3rd pull really worth the potential/guaranteed issues?

Does the thought of spending a lot of money on rebuilding the engine because of a stupid, preventable mistake, have any effect on your decision to hit boost or not?

wrxtuner82
06-10-2011, 02:37 PM
Lmao, okay, so pretty much what everyone is saying is

Parts are fine without tune as long as I stay out of boost

Parts + boost = new motor time

Really I'm just trying to figure if I can make it from my house in Fremont NH to Kinetic which is about 10 miles.......but 08WRXME will probably testify that even 10 miles might be 9.5 miles too far to ask me to stay out of boost

Alright, so I made an appointment with Kinetic to install my clutch and do a tune, hopefully all in the same day, they're gonna try. Clutch is so bad I'll probably end up trailering the car over there anyways, so no real worries about staying out of boost.

I glances at it but I don't remember exacts. It was around 280-300wft/lbs and 230-250whp. It runs 16lbs on the dyno but was able to see 18 on the street getting into 4th and 5th.
Oh and again Connor... Can't keep he foot held back. Dumb **** can't hold back on that new clutch...

How is he liking it with the new mods?

He's looking cheap so I suggested Hancook Ventus V-12's 225/45/17. He has snows and has no intention or budget for ultra high performance tires. The V-12's fit the bill nicely.
