Maryland Judge Decrees Pontiac G8 Taillights illegal in Maryland.

Went to court for my clear tail lights on my car and was found guilty!
The judge actualy told me she didn't care what the manufacturer said, what the federal govt said, what the DOT # stamped onto my taillights said if the officer says my lights aren't legal then they're not legal. I took the G8 sales brochure in along with pics of my car and other G8 GT's and the VIN trace by 3 different dealers saying my lights were factory none of it mattered she found me guilty of failing to display or reflect red light on the rear of the car. Didn't matter the reflecters were in the bumper, didn't matter where the light is has that little red circle, the whole lens isn't red so they're not legal. Also where the back-up and turn signals are should be the reflectors according to the cop so the V6 cars lights aren't legal either.
Judge stupid went on to tell me that maybe I should consider trading in or selling the car since its not legal in MD and that I'm going to continue to get the $60 tickets till I get rid of the car.
So I contacted Pontiac's 1-800 # and I have an apt next friday to have my car looked at by them and see if they can help or at least repay me the $85.50 fine and court costs.
I honestly don't know what else I can do. The cop was ALL smiles afterwards and winked at me! WTF! Now I'm screwed! How do I go to work now? I drive right thru where he works!! So this ass nuget can make up **** randomly for any car he gets a hard on for and nothing can be done to fight it!
This is BS.

C/N: Cop/Judge think they know more than the D.O.T. and fine this guy $85 for having factory tail lights.

probably some 80 year old ***** that thinks she always know whats best

those are the ones to watch cause they will step over federal no problem to get what they want

but if you really wanna **** up her life as a judge take the case to federal and watch them hopefully strip her of her license or atleast suspend it

DOT just goes along with each of their states.

The clear lense can stop the red, and that is bad. And if it is LED in there, the focus may not have enough side view.
They may as well stop the snappy twack of LED in some cars (seen the back of a caddy lately?) while this judge is at it.

the fade of blinkers in and out is real.. LED snaps suck.
I am glad someone speaks up. Why not a judge to get the ball rolling. It is not as if they step up like a lone king.

NHTSA feed the judge some info? They know alot before changes take place, maybe the judge got a heads up.

I read this on another forum:

go to wal mart and get some trailer lights, hack the back end.

About as bad as HID. I like the hint of cleaner gas in the vacuum bulbs, but the HID is way way out there.
may as well get that straightened out before it turns into a straight pipe harley stampede pretending it isn't killing babies grandmas and wounded veterans.

If you read into it a bit more it appears he modded his stock taillights, hence MAKING them illegal, DOT stamping and all. A bit like baking most of our stock headlights to remove reflectors and such. Yes they are stock, but you have MADE them illegal.

Nope they are OEM, the GT just have different lights from the base model.

The problem centers around the clear lens tail lights and bumper-mounted reflectors of the Pontiac G8 GT (http://jalopnik.com/tag/pontiacg8gt/) model. Because the red area in the lenses is reduced in the G8 GT, there are reflectors mounted in the bumper to reflect additional light and bring the reflective requirements into spec. Th officer and by extension the judge considered them illegal.

The problem appears to center around the fact that he took them apart, painted certain chrome parts and used multiple taillights to make the ones he then put on his car. The lenses were still stamped, and he was trying to use that to win in court.

I'm telling you, read into it further, he definitely modified his stock taillights.

cops don't know modded from unmodded in cases like this....if you do it right, no one would ever know.

Nowhere in there does it say he modded them in any way. From what I can tell those ARE the stock tailights. BS

:iam:

I read through the comments on jalopnik and they all suggest different things.

if they're modded, they're illegal. we all know that. if its the picture below in the comments of fully blacked out lenses then he cant win and he's an assclown.

theres a whooooole lot missing from this case, unfortunately.

Violations may only be appealed on the merit of Law.

My lawyer would have that judges robe.
