Now that winter is approaching it wil become essential to keep salt and other harsh winter elements off our cars. The easiest way is consistent carwashes (if nothing more than simple rinses). Maybe a collection of better than average carwashes may help some people in the area. If you have a good place you go to at a resonable price, feel free to share. If possible, include location, cost, and how busy it usually is (i hate waiting 25 minutes in line).

For a simple rinse, I usually go to one of the Black Dog touchless car washes. I think it's like $6 for the base package. Not too bad.

Winter in New England is harsh on cars... The sand and the salt really beats up your paint's finish. Besides just regular washing keeping your paint protected is the first step. Collinite 845 is an insulator wax that can help provide protection for 3-4 months.

If you are really looking to protect and make the winter wash/rinsing process easier I would recommend:

Clay bar to remove surface impurities
Polish paint
Using a paint sealer (or something like Klasse AIO -all in one)
The applying a thin layer of collinite 845 (you may reapply another light coat after 24 hrs)

silly question but can the paint sealer and collinte be removed or stripped off later? or more accurately will they interfere with waxing?

Nah not a silly question at all.... a simple answer it will not interfere with waxing.

Collinite is a wax, just a different kind than the more well known carnuba wax. Dish washing liquid as well as an OTC cleaner waxes will remove wax.

Here is a product description of AIO... where it works as an all purpose , cleaner, polish, protectant.

Klasse began with its ALL-IN-ONE Polish, a wax in one sense and a suit of armor in another. It will produce the depth and clarity of a high quality carnauba wax but last much longer. Klasse All In One Polish will remove oxidation, minor swirls, old wax, and other surface blemishes; leaving a beautiful and deep acrylic shine. Unlike some formulas, Klasse will not penetrate or change paint.

Acrylic makes the difference. Acrylic is different than wax, silicones, and polymers. This polish will bond to your car’s surface just like the previously mentioned treatments, but it will not cause any change to your paint, and you don’t have to worry about drying time.

If you have a favorite wax you can layer the applications over time (i.e. 12- 24 hours later.)

Carnuba wax provides a warm glow while collinite provides a more durable protection.

Hope that explains it better and helped.

No I don't work for them, lol. I just found a product description and copied and pasted. I have used the product recently and thought it did a great job. I would consider myself a hobbyist detailer, as I am always washing or polishing my car, my wives or a relatives. ( I find it therapeutic after sitting behind a desk all day ~nerd~ . )

I an new to the forum as a poster.... but I found this forum awhile back researching about what "others had to say" or "what problems" Subaru owners had with their cars. After reading forum posts, and sites like eopinions I then went out and bought a one year old Legacy.

Nice Welcome to the club!!
I have owned roughly 25 cars in the last 10 or so years and at least I can say I have settled on a manufacturer. Now if they would make a coupe again......
