UPDATE: 8/06/10 Better pics will be up before weekends over...
turbo project parts are coming together!!!
Just picked up a new project that will become my brothers first car when he gets his license. Untill then I'll be driving it as a daily and will also be putting all of the spair parts that we've got laying around into it. Should be a fun DD and a great first car for him too.
It's a 1995 impreza L wagon that is a 5 speed and is powered by a monster 1.8L
getting it for cheap, only problem with it is the rearend went pop... from what I've been told the body and interior are mint and the motor and suspension have gotten alot of fresh parts so that's good too. Just got wp, tb, ect... not too long ago.
so now the game plan:
put all of my spare parts on this... and I've got alot of spare parts. it will be turbo'd in no time  over time it will become my lil brothers car but till then... vtboost budget build!!!
Pics to come after I drive it home with a blown rearend haha
Well I'm trading some parts and pieces for a new set of wheels that have stud'd snows so the winter aspect is all set up allready.
And as for mods that I've allready either gotten or am picking up soon...
Here's the list...
Turbo exhaust manifold, catless up pipe, td04, SS intake setup, JDM air to water intercooler setup, SS bov, catless bellmouth turbo to axle back, wrx single tip axlebacks, wrx fuel pump, plus a few more misc things I'm forgetting...
Things still needed...
Oil feed line, FPR, MBC, a few gaskets but not all, and that's about it

Picture is now up in the OP :)
drove home all nice and smooth like, had a noise from the rearend and you can smell gear oil just like we were told so that's no supprise. The body is great minus the drivers rear door (it came with a spair!!), the rear hatch has a rust spot (came with a spair hatch too ), and the drivers rear quarter has small rust so nothing too crazy.
Also had more spair parts in the trunk... Spair set of headlights, taillights, front corner lights, front directionals, couple spair center consoles, extra set of steelies W/ tires, ect...
 bunch of stuff!!!!
So the plan is to start working on this ASAP and I'll start colecting the final few bits and pieces needed for the 1.8T :spin: we've only got a few more to go :hide:

the first imprezas/legacy onward a few years had a back end that aided in sharp turns..(quite silly)
and not to mention it was their first dive ionto 100+ inch wheel base (that was a HUGE leap for subaru)
the rear end does not like it. it is not about power, but the other factors of running..
in the generation before that one, everyting but the rear end broke.. I guess it is a see saw of engineering even for subaru.
Difficult stuff...

where does the water cycle through to cool down? just pass through the radiator with the rest of the coolant? those seem like a pretty sweet setup if you can get your hands on one.. maybe not a super high HP mod, but different and definitely something to start a conversation with!

this one will have its own seperate cooler because the radiator gets HOT
this should do the trick, right now I'm checking out the different brands of pumps and also decent sized cores to use for the cooler. Something too big would be over kill but I don't want to get a small core so it doesn't do its job... so something midsized should do the trick. We carry them at my work so I'll look into those aswell.
theres quite a few out there that run the air to water intercooler setups, its a proven setup for the most part. This actuall one I've never actually seen in person before so this should be pretty interesting
I don't want people to see an actuall intercooler or to really know whats going on period with this wagon... :hide: This will be an NES exclusive, I'm not even posting updates on my FB page  haha

200 easy, I've seen them go 13.1 in the 1320. 1.8T's are not to be under estimated, they're a very solid setup if done right.
If it were me I'd run:
wrx exh mani
STi up pipe
22t heads

STi sidefeeds
TBE
E-Manage Ultimate

Nice little project you've got there. Brings me back to pinky's early days, when she was still red.
I don't know if you figured out the oil feed yet. There is a plug on top of the block. It's round and you need a 10mm allen key to remove it. Subaru sells a pre-tapped plug that you can replace it with. I believe it's the same as the one the oil pressure switch uses. Then just make a SS line with appropriate fittings.
For return, you will need to weld a fitting to the pan. Just make sure the fitting is high enough on the pan to allow it drain into the pan, and not back up in the lines. I always put it just above the baffling.
I've got a diff and axles out of a 94 L, should bolt right up for you. Let me know if your interested in it.

Thanks for the heads up. I just checked the trans code VX3AA, and it is certainly a 4.11.
I do have the transmission to match the diff, if for some reason you wanted to change it all.

thanks Matt, I forgot all about those plugs. I've actually got that oil threaded plug on my blue car for my oil pressure gauge :palm: it's cheap too so I'll order one up for this
or I may cheat and get those SS heads from dans spare block :hide: we finally put his motor on my stand last night after pulling it from a spare chassis.
Pinky is one of the cars that inspired me for this, and also talking to Spilner helped big time too
it's such a simple idea and not many do it anymore, so since I either have or can get the parts to do this... why not right
I'll keep that tranny and diff in mind Matt thanks, I'm gonna try a placein Keene tomorrow too. I'd rather not swap out the tranny just yet. I called the place in Keene from work yesturday (they're one of our customers) and they said they'd check and for me to call back Monday :)
we shall see, I wanna drive this so I can pull my wrx off the road to do some maintainence to it and not rush it...
Oh and Matt, for pinky what did you use for tubing? Just an aftermarket FPR?

This one will be fine, getting it from Leons auto center over in Keene. It's like a subaru graveyard out around back of the place  I called and talked to Leon himself since the parts people don't know what they've got over there... :palm:
after talking to him he said he'd call right back to let me know they had it. Got a call back 5 minutes later along with a price. Said he'd have one of his guys pull it off either today or tomorrow :)

Oh and Matt, for pinky what did you use for tuning? Just an aftermarket FPR?
Tuning was a combination of:
Legacy turbo 360cc injectors (pinks)
Adjustable FPR
HKS AFR controller
Apexi ITC
I think I may have an adjustable RRFPR somewhere. I'll look around and let you know. It was used on my OBS-T. Couldn't have been on the car more than 6 months as I totaled that car, 6mo after the turbo.

I don't know, I kinda like it as is since NO ONE runs these things... well that I've seen atleast.
Oh and hopefully I'll be getting 2 ej18 motors pretty soon, both of which run. If I do, I'll be able to put one up on a engine stand and start maching up my turbo setup and make sure everything fits and is plumbed in. Oil feed, oil drain, coupler for turbo to air/water, ect... :)

Sweet! build it out of the car then swap it in or just make sure it fits then put it on the motor that is already in the car?

I'm thinking that building it outside of the car then swap it all in as a whole is the best IMO. Then I'll be able to take my time and make sure everything fits with no suprises. Get all the correct couplers, gaskets, fittings, a few custom mounts made up, ect...
Instead of running an electric waterpump for the air/water setup, I'm going to try and source out a waterpump that will take place of my a/c compressor (with help of a custom bracket) and will run off from a serp belt!
What did the jdm leggy use?!?! I don't know but I'm gonna search :spin:
picking through books at work and found a cooler that I like for up front in the bumper. Gonna mount it where the foglight should be I think... it's a heatercore and is perfect... I think...
