Hi all,
Decided on keeping my wrx for the foreseeable future and have a few questions. It will be a daily driver for the next year or so. Right now it has 60,000 miles on it and recently i changed the gear oil, spark plugs, brakes, tires, techroned, sea-foamed, oil/filter, walboro, cleaned maf/air filter, tune from bren.
Trying to budget for a new turbo/ic/tune, so was just wondering what else i should possibly budget for in terms of accessories for that install and possible maintenance and common problems at my mileage over the next 1-2 years.
thanks

Timing belt, water pump, and all the appropriate pulleys & tensioners at I believe 80k, runs about $400-ish for all the parts. Depending on which IC (and style you go with, FMIC vs TMIC) you go with, you may need couplers & t-bolts, but those are cheap. Changed the coolant recently as well? Also, do the seafoam every 10-15k, and count on changing the plugs every 10-15k as well.

if your goingto put in a bigger turbo you'll probably want to put in bigger injectors as well

Depends on how big. A VF39 would be fine on stock 06/07 injectors.
Also, depending on what size turbo, might wanna add a transmission (STI/LGT/LGT Gears/PPG) to the list of things to do.

going to try to keep it simple with vf43/48 possible, but prob getting a blouch 16g or hta68 as i would prefer new over used. Definitely top mount i/c (perhaps sti, aps, other suggestions??), and thanks for the other thoughts which was about what i was expecting.

With any of those turbos definitely keep the transmission in mind.
As for TMIC, don't waste money on the STI (you'll pay way too much for a lackluster IC that's still fin & tube and not even bar & plate). The APS ones are nice, but in all honesty, just get one of these:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/02-07-Impreza-WRX-STi-Turbo-TMIC-Y-Pipe-Kit-EJ20-EJ25-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQitemZ350369712362QQptZMotorsQ5f CarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
Fitment is going to be the same as the APS (that is, both will require some finessing to get in, as they're both huge), but the eBay one is cheaper. If you do go the eBay route (do it, you won't regret it), make sure it's the EXACT one pictured in that link. There's 2 types of eBay top mounts. That is the good one, the other one sucks. :)

I would start saving. you don't have to do the timing belt, pulleys, water pump to 105k. The clutch will have to be upgraded down the road. The ebay tmic is junk. Ask any tuner and they will tell you the same. for the money just get a ssac fmic for $300.

That was my mistake on the timing belt, thought it was 80k.
As for the eBay TMIC, you're totally wrong on that. So long as you get the good style, they're probably the best bang for the buck in terms of a TMIC. And I'm sure tuners (*cough* Bren *cough*) would agree :)

for 50 bucks more you can have a fmic and push the bigger turbo to its full potential. He won't be running a td04. I have had my fmic for over 70k miles and would never want a tmic ever again.

With being as large as the ebay tmic's are, and for the turbo sizes he was talking about he'd be fine. Not to mention better throttle response on a tmic, oh and let's not forget that whole keeping the bumper beam thing :D
That being said, it's really a matter of personal opinion for FMIC vs TMIC with those sized turbos.

Thanks. Deff going tmic, just not sure which one (even heard the ess from ii was decent and can be coated/shipped for around 300? Also leaning more toward the hta68, just because it gets great ratings snd has bren's recommendation. Just need to find a new one at a good price, but am in no hurry. Just have to plan ahead or it never happens...

You should ignore GearheadGeek and just go FMIC and be done.

I believe the ESS is made in the same factory (and is the same design) as the one I linked earlier. The thermal dispersant coating is a nice touch, but make sure if you go w/that one that it comes w/the Y-Pipe & couplers. If it doesn't, you'll either have to buy one or get an STI one & modify it a bit to fit.

+1 its a waste to buy a tmic for almost the same as a fmic and make less power and have heat soak if your going with a bigger turbo then stock. I've seen many people switch from tmic's to fmic in the 7 years I have owned my wrx then sti. but its your money to waste lol.
I'm pretty sure bren has said the ebay tmic's are junk and most other tuners on nasioc say the same. but I would research it a little better then just listening to two people's opinions. check out the hta68 thread on nasioc in the proven power forum.
