For starters:

-Install my grounding kit from the RS
-Install the lightweight crank pulley from the RS
-Install my new Cobb style catback :)
-Figure out if I have an existing tune on the car, and either get a Bren tune or load a simple base map from someone
-Basic tune-up procedure (Fluid changes, plugs, filters, etc.)What are your plans?

So I went to install my catback today and the exhaust didn't fit. :( I have now found out I have Turbo XS WS turboback full exhaust system, minus the axleback. The previous just stuck on a sti axle back instead of the Turbo XS axleback. So my dilema is I either need to get rid of the Turbo XS system and find another 3 in. downpipe or find a Turbo XS full 3in. midpipe.

Anyone want to help me out? I really like the turbo XS stuff, so I don't want to get rid of it if I can.

Tiny update:

I found some boost leaks so I went and replaced the uppipe and downpipe gaskets. I finally was able to pull the turbo and find out what the hell it is. Tis' a TD05H 16G. :) A little more searching in the engine, I found I have STI pink injectors. I also slapped on a lightweight crank pulley.

Now to finally find out which fuel pump I have and then get tuned. :)

So I finally got my car back together tonight from the gasket install. The old gaskets had some leaks, can you tell?:

http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f17/apkarian100/1008002023b.jpg

I was also able to re-tighten the hose clamps from the compressor to TMIC and the throttle body. Now I can actually hear my stock BOV working a little and now I have no leaks. :)

Things to note:

1. Putting a turbo back on is a *****. The stupid oil drain hose gave me the hardest time with the squeeze clamps. I finally found a good method for putting the clamp back on after hours of frustration.

2. Never use copper crush washers for the turbo coolant lines that were thicker than the stock ones. Basically, they don't "crush" and start leaking coolant everywhere. Then you have to fiddle with taking them off in the very tight space you have, without having to take the turbo off. It sucks!

I would change out the filter for a more name brand one. I have seen so many of those fall apart.

I hope you didn't use the dremel at all for the intake install. Still needing the after maf to get that full intake.

I replaced the header/uppipe gaskets to solve those issues and will now be replacing the IACV gasket to solve my idle issues.

though I will say that gr-2's for an "oem replacement" is a decent strut. I have them in the front of my wagoon and you can tell they're not stock.

Big props to Bren Tuning today, totally different car now that it's tuned. I didn't get a road dyno tune, but Bren estimated 275-280 WHP for now. The car is only set right now for 15 psi because my clutch started slipping at anything above 15 psi. Couple the new clutch disc with the FMIC and intake about to go on, Bren sees me going over 300 WHP.

apkarian100
01-30-2011, 09:39 PM
Well, the kit fits nice on most 02-07 WRXs. Demetry has the same type kit. It didn't fit as well as I wanted in the bumper area. Comparing Demetry's 06 bumper to an 02 wagon bumper, his bumper sticks out way more than my bumper, allowing the pipes to the core to fit quite comfortably. Me on the other hand, I had to cut a lot of the bumper, to the point where there is about an inch or so bumper left where the core sits. I got it all set now, but when I was first bumper trimming, I couldn't believe how much I had to cut to get that damn core to fit.

I want to say the bugeye WRX sedan bumper sticks out a little more than the wagon bumper. I remember too that a JDM grill on a bugeye wagon hangs over the bumper more than a JDM grill on a sedan. Now I know why.

Bugeye wagon with JDM grill:

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1301/4673399150_b011e584f1_b.jpg

Bugeye sedan with JDM grill:

http://superobothouse.smugmug.com/Hobbies/Impreza/wrxrain/826497409_2okyF-L.jpg

Regardless, I recommend the Speedtech FMIC, when it goes on sale. I especially like the beefy beam holding the core.
So how did the kit fit? Did you have any issues since it was a prototype?
