View Full Version : Need a video recorder for the GF

She wants a DVD recorder. I looked at best buy and they are pretty expensive. I want it to have a tuner at the very least. It doesn't have to be super hight end, but i don't want some POS thing that will last a few months.

Does anyone know anything about HDD recorders? Not the tivo or comcrap boxes. I thought i read somewhere about them and now i can't find anything about them. Are they any good? Prices?? The tivo is out of the question because so had no phone line of wireless on that side of the apartment. And he cable is through her land lord and i don't want to talk to her about upgrading her service with a new box.

why do people need to record dvds, i mean they are already on a disk right?

Do you want to put all the dvds onto a harddrive?

That would be what I would use it for. Also rally videos. And then combo sex and rally at same time.

She wants it to record here shows. She works a lot at night being a reporter and misses all of them. I was thinking more of a HDD recorder than a DVD one.

Does the humax tivo 1 need any internet or phone line? Thats the only reason why i'm not getting her a tivo.

i think all of them need a phone line, this is how they reivce the siganl to record. Otherwise your ****ed, you can still use a vhs recorder and set it up to record from time to time. Then you can purchase a vhs to dvd. And now you can make the dvd, but in a few years going to want that on a hdd instead of the dvd, so pretty much what you are saying is you want a dish netowrk model DISHPVR500. I dont have a phone line plugged into mine, but i do have the satellite to recieve the signal. i dont think this helped, ehy?

well most DVD with HDD recorders work just like a VHS does. You tell it when to record and it does it. Thats all i want, but i want it to have a hard drive.

Just get her a TV card for her PC so she can plug it into there and record through that! Get her a big HD and youre all set!
