Every once in a while my car is very hard to start iit revs over and over and over but nothing, then if I try again in a minute or give it a little gas it finally statrs and turns over and idles sooo low at like .01rpms, then when I get to start driving it idles high. Fuel gauge is (sometimes)inaccurate. Not sure if that's related though? Any thoughts? Thanks.

it might be clogged causing low fuel pressure

best bet may to be starting with a fuel pressure test at the rail in most cars there is a valve very similar to ones on tires but dont use a tire guage

Damn I just used all my money into this thing too lol. I have no way of testing anything. :(

maybe you can borrow one from auto zone. you put a deposit on a tool and when you return it you get your money back. have done it with brake line tools for my old truck. they may have a guage

Did the fuel filter a couple days ago, seemed a little better, but today it started again really bad it took like 5 minutes to get the car started. gave it some gas and it idled up again and drove itself, in gear lol. Sound like next step is the fuel pump? Someone please tell me they have a subaru they are parting out with a fuel pump they can spare lol?

I'm pretty sure it is the fuel pump, only considering the other symptom to go with it(the inop fuel gauge) someone said the float can be all out of whack. I'm sure I could use the fuel pump lol.

So apparently it wasn't the fuel pump. While it definitely feels way better today it did that hard starting thing again, except it didn't have to give it a pump of the gas pedal to get it going. Turned the key once and let it try to turn over for like 10 seconds... stopped, waited a second, tried again and it started up. I don't know if it is cold, or just how subaru's are?

if facing the engine, it's on the back passenger side of the intake manifold.

Crack on the fuel return line in the tank (right where it attaches to the sending unit) will cause a slow vacuum leak.

After sitting, the fuel will drain back into the tank.

I think Nick(07xtreme) would have seen that when he did the fuel pump, right?

It's something randon that can easily be missed. I would never even suggest that it's the problem if it had not happened to my buddy. He had the exact same symptoms as you.

I know when I did the fuel filler pipe, that little vent pipe went into the cars body and wasn't connected to anything after that, it felt like anyways. Is that something? Also would he have seen the crack when he did the fuel pump?
