I saw how the last thread about magnetic gps device sparked a interesting conversation.
So lets spark another one.

Heres the article

http://shine.yahoo.com/channel/parenting/message-to-parents-keep-your-kids-tiny-hands-off-the-iphone-2401313/

This one is very interesting and probably would looked apon kinda whatever at first. But think about it while reading specially those of you who are parents and i think you will see the reason for discussion.

What this article is talking about is basically saying is, Should the smartphone

replace the pacifier
http://jorgeguerra.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/pacifier.jpg

and what it means by this is when your dealing with stubborn small child (say 2 years old or younger) that wants something (for ex) but doesn't get it and cries you generally tell them its ok and pop the pacifier in their mouth and they sometimes keep quiet.
Parents as studies show are leaning towards their smart phones to replace this.
Say your at a restraunt eating your fav meal and little timmy starts throwing a fit or crying. Instead of the pacifier or a talking to (or the age old effort of a light spanking that i am sure some of us remember getting as children) the child. according to studies you will whip out your smart phone and turn on a app related to simple childish things say a Sesame Street App or barney app or something along those lines and hand it to the child to be entertained.

heres a AT&T commercial to display what i am talking about

Ok now i know your thinking "pfft shuts the kid up right so what?"

Well heres the other side the story that builds the discussion.

according to research from pediatricians and other experts. After you do this enough times the kid will now get use to this and will think "well every time i cry or throw a fit. mom or dad will give me happy elmo on the moving screen thing" and they will think that this is what their world will consist of. Being stuck infront of screens such as computers and tv and phones. Which can lead to unhealthy childern due to lack of exercise of course and also doesn't allow them to learn the way doctors say they should.

like when i and i am sure most of if not all of you were kids can maybe remember sitting there with toys like lettered blocks of wood stacking and toppling and fitting shapes through holes in a cube or just running around having fun and being a kid.

Now i am not a parent so i can't justify one way or the other. But i can understand the concerns of the doctors.

Cause the last thing we need is this

(as seen in the animated movie Wall-E)

So yea whats your take on this?

Parents i want your thoughts the most and i know theres plenty of you on this form to create a good debate!

No. Because smartphones don't like baby spit-up/throwup. Trust me.

I was on a flight not too long ago where the women in front of me was keeping her kid quiet with an Iphone, and when we had to turn off all electronic devices, the little **** went through the roof. Screaming, throwing a god damned fit.:unamused:

Once she could turn the Iphone back on, the kid shut up and the flight was nice again. :)

I don't have kids so I may not have any ground to stand on here but, hell no. You'd essentially be giving them $500+ and a lit match to play with. My parents didn't love me much so I didn't even get a first gen GameBoy till they were on clearance when the new one came out when I was 12 (1996). I went through the "are we there yet?" years with nothing more than books and an older brother to beat me up. If I ever have kids, those damn games would be closely controlled.

It's amazing how short the gap is though- I'll be 26 in a few weeks and our newest guy in my dept is 22 or 23 and he is constantly on his damn phone texting or whatever during work hours. Being that I'm sort of a supervisor this week with my manager away for meetings I've had to give him crap several times already. I don't get out much- are all younger people this damn stupid?
