My 2011 WRX runs 235/45R17 tires stock, and I just got a free set of Blizzak WS60's but they are 225/60R16. That makes the Bridgestone's 1.3" taller in diameter. Would these be too big to run in the Winter? If so, what is the optimal size I should be running for snows? Thanks!

you may rub on turns

225/45/17 winter would be best

maybe stock size? or 20mm less width with a 5% gain in sidewall. 215/50R17?

Get a set of Jackson 1" spacers and you should be fine and run'm fo the winter. Will give more snow clearance too. But, when it comes to snows, narrower and more side wall is mo better

Did you get a set of rims with them too?

205/55/16 is the ideal winter tire size for 16-inch wheels, also a better size to run than any 17-inch fitments.

I don't see too much risk at rubbing with stock ride height with that tire size but I agree with the 225/45 sizing or the 215/55 as shtbxr said.

I rub at stock height with 235/45/17s, so I have to think that the sidewall size for the 225/60 has got to be close, just be careful around turns.

I ended up going with 235/45R17 WinterSport 3D's and so far they are awesome. I was worried about the floaty feeling you sometimes get with Winter tires but I drove to CT this weekend with total confidence in these tires. Obviously still waiting for snow before I can fully comment.

thats gonna be a good tire for ya, shorter sidewall than the 225's so they shouldn't feel too mushy. I'm running the 225/60/16 and at full lock they do rub sometimes.
