ok...
I've been with Ciitzens Bank since 1996 and I have had some really bad experiences with them...
For example:
1. Their hours are horrible
2. They froze my savings account on accident
3. Their online bill pay makes you wait 5 business days to transfer funds
4. Not enough ATM's
Anybody have a large bank that they would recommend?

where are you located. i have 3 bank accounts, one with citizens, one at bank of america, and one at td banknorth. citizens is my primary, and they usually treat me well. out of all of them i think they have the best locations and hours in the area (the ones in supermarkets like shaws in portsmouth, is open later than any other bank around.. usually), but i use td banknorth as they were the only ones to give me my checking account when i was 12, and i went with bank of america as i go to boston lots and they have the best selection of atms in the boston area.
as far as fees and everything, it seems as if they do charge you, you could easily go in, and ask them to remove it, as long as you dont do it every month. i've never had problems at any banks.

citizens has the best hours. ive never found another bank open on sundays.

I have Bank of America. I don't have many problems with them except locations aren't on any of my traveled routes. There is one right outside the main gate at the Navy base which makes it nice for deposits, but to hit the atm is a PITA because I do all of my shopping in Tax Free NH and I hop right on the bypass to do so.
Right now I just opened up my USAA checking account. Once my ATM card comes I'm going to go online to my Coast Guard account and shift my direct deposit to USAA. They refund the first 10 ATM withdrawls you make in a month. I probably do about 10 withdrawls. Plus I'm moving my renters insurance to them so I get a multi-line discount thing.

I like Bank of America too, I've had them since I lived in FL, before they acquired Fleet. I like Bank of America online banking.

I have had nothing but problems with BOA. I would never EVER do business with them again. I have citizens now and plan on getting r=id of them as well asap. Going to TD banknorth.

Yea I think USAA is only military still. I love the fact that they refund your first 10 atm withdrawl fees per month. I think I might use the ATM half that in a month. I mostly Debit things because cash is too much of a hassel.
I have the opposite to say for their car insurance. They are actually more expensive then my current policy with State Farm. I'm making the switch to Geico this week from State Farm. Saving myself about $70 a month. A lot of people have luck with USAA car insurance, I must be the exception. PM me for more details on that if you're interested enough.
Randy, you should be able to go to USAA since you're a veteran. If not then I'd go with Bank North.

I talked to USAA and they mentioned that all I have to do to deposit a check is scan it and email it in :)
THey also give discounts on their car insurance if you have a checking account. (I have their car insurance)
Their Savings interest rate is also one the highest non-moneymarket.

I would love to use USAA since I can now but then in the future if I want to go to the bank I would be out of luck.
USAA has great interest rates.

there is nothing i cant do over a phone or on the computer with usaa. i have the checking, savings, investment, and iras there and never the need to go to an office. i would have my truck loan there, but navy federal had lower interest rates for a vehicle loan. going to the bank, for people that properly manage their money, will be obsolete very soon!

Not much to say on banking. DCU is great, but they only have several locations, none on the seacoast, I believe. Been a Citizen's customer since '02 or so, hated it since '04.
I saved a heap of money on my car insurance by switching to Geico. Sounds cheezy, but I saved over $2k by switching over from Progressive through Whittemore Insurance in Londonderry after my wife's SR22 last year.
