I'd be in if it were the 9th. I work the 1st and 2nd on night shifts.
I'd need to borrow equipment or rent a package. Used to have all my own stuff before I moved to D.C. but then living in the city I couldn't play. Had a sweet pump sniper marker, Phantom, each one made individually per order. Also had an A-5 with response trigger. Sold it all when I was stuck in the city life and had not indoor place to go to.

Man I wish I had a Tippman A-5. I have a Tippman 98 and a Spyder compact.

Cool, i emailed them about group rates and what exactly the field rental is. Right now looks like Feb 9th.
Ill reupdate when i can.

Boy, this is intriguing and tempting. I play tourny ball, so I'm always up for chillin' and playing some rec ball. Just have to decide if I'd rather hit the slopes, or play some ball. Hmmm...

I did woodsball but do have some experience on the speedball field. I'm not expert by any means but I have a feeling I'll be able to hold my own.

Speedball rocks. I used to play speedball tourneys in Manchester when I was in high school. Was hard core into paintballing for about 4 years. I would love to go and am contemplating it. Also thinking about getting another gun. Soooo much cheaper than when I was into it. Christ when I was into it, Autocockers were the best thing you could get. Angels were just coming out, now everyones got one. I think I want an Autococker.<--- * Please no gay jokes*

You'll love it dude. I try to play every other weekend, but things don't always go as planned. If I can go, sounds good.:)

That's pretty cool man, would have never guessed. It's definitely a good time, and a lot has changed since those days. Hell, there isn't even a field in Manchester anymore. But if you are serious about getting back in, let me know. Would be happy to help you out with anything, if needed.

I promise nothing...
I also agree Terry, that it is certainly cheaper. At least there's the illusion that it's cheaper, maybe I just make more money then I did when I was into paintball. I also think that the markers are cheaper, but field fees have certainly risen. Including the cost of field paint. At least looking at the rates posted above it seems that way.

What are people using for mid-range markers these days? I'd enjoy something that is mixed. I enjoyed the big scenario games but also wanted something to keep up with some recreational speedball.
I wouldn't be into the game so much that I'd want to upgrade the marker, just keep it stock. But it would have to be able to play well out in the woods and well on the speedball field. Wouldn't have to be outstanding in both, or even one, I'd accept something that handles both just fine.

I picked up a Tippmann 98 custom. It starts as a great base and you can make it what you want.
The model I have is before they did something to make it not chop paint. I don't know what the change really is but must be something better. Although Tippman makes a whole bunch of bad ass markers like the a5 and x7.

Look into the Proto line for something that will do excellent in both, especially if you have an interest in speedball. The SLG and Rail would be two great options.

Unless there is something you really REALLY like about them, I'd advise to stray away from them. It takes a lot to keep them shooting well, and there are certainly much better options out there that any idiot can work (not saying anything about you, just in general).

Ok cool glad you came back in. What are you currently running? I am thinking about getting back into mildly paintballing again. Nothing too extreme like I used to do. Probably an even mix of outdoor and indoor. I have always liked spyders. I had a few fully custom ones back in the day. Tippmans have always been right up there too.

Look at what he said for me. I was reading the reviews of the Proto and it's a fairly good all around marker for a price tag of just $249.99

Okay so back on topic, whos going?
i added terry cause he seems interested plus hes local.
Back of topic, my first gun was a semi auto brass eagle, POS!
Then i bought the a5, sick gun, worth the price, then i modifyed that, Response trigger, Flat line barrel and a cool looking stock that has no use.

Yep, I'd say go with either something from Proto, or a Smart Parts Ion. Nifty little gun that will get you back into the swing of things in no time, for less than the Proto's too.
I'll take a better picture if you want, but here's what I'm shooting right now. Bob Long Vice:

i played with that gun at a store once, really nice, light weight and shoots good to. But i needed something that looked like a 'gun' rather than an alien weapon found in Halo. THe gun is great but, ive always had issues with wierd looking guns.

I was looking at this package:
http://www.discountpaintball.com/smart-parts-ion-paintball-gun-black-package-p-3716.html
I think the ION would be fine for me. I know it's mostly a n00b gun these days but I haven't played for a couple years, and I'm not going hardcore into the sport. I'm going to be more of a hobbyist and I think this would suit me well in the woods and the arena.
What do you think about the included options? Is there any better deals out there?

We need an even amount of people to come, My brother said he can get 3 from work plus himself if we want. So we can have a 4 on 4, or just do a big match and play people already there. I cant imagine nobody else wants to get painted?

Looks like a solid package. I shot an ION a few years ago, it will definitely hold you over. I'll look around for you, but that is probably one of the better packages you will find new (I'm guessing you don't want to go used).
Ive never used a nitro tank, how are they?
They're required to use basically anything over a Spyder/Tippmann. CO2 will just ruin any electro.
How about minimags? I used to want one of those so badly when I was younger. Or are mechanical guns completely overrun by electronics now?
Minimags are pretty much ancient now, and are illegal in many places. They're a high-end mech I guess you'd say, and can be made to shoot full auto if you can find the sweet spot in the trigger. The boards in the electros will cancel out any of this "bounce." And yes, mechanical guns have become more or less obsolete.

The few guns I mentioned to Tricky would be a great place to start out again. Smart Parts ION, Proto SLG or Rail, etc. Your borders are unlimited if you are willing to get into the used market. You can find many very good deals if you know where to look on quality guns that are last year's or the year befores model. If you don't mind looking used, I'd be happy to do some searching around for you. There are a few good sized forums in the New England area so you could meet and buy, rather than buying without shooting it.
Edit: Maybe I'll find some time to make it to an upcoming meet to talk with you guys that are interested. Would be much easier for me. :)

01-27-2008, 04:34 PM
Are we actually having a paintball match?
If not then please edit the first post so people don't get confused. I can also edit the title so this can be just a Paintball chat thread. Then you can create a new thread should there actually be a Paintball event planned, which would include a date, roster of those interested, location and any other information needed.
Don't want to be an ass but I just don't want people getting confused.
Robk0000
01-27-2008, 06:10 PM
now its a general chat, because we dont have enough people to go to a pay for site. Woodsball is always good, even when its cold outside.
TrickyDik
01-27-2008, 07:31 PM
Renamed the thread and moved it to general chat. If you could take a moment to clean up the OP so no refrences to a meet are there. If you do plan event just create another thread in the appropriate place.
Thinking I'm going to pick up some gear since there are some nearby fields. Probably wait until it's closer to spring though.
TrickyDik
01-29-2008, 07:14 AM
So if I were to pick up a marker, which of the three should I buy?
Proto Matrix Rail
Proto SLG
Smart Parts Ion
It seems to me that the Ion and the SLG are more entry level markers. I've been into paintball for many years off and on. I've owned a Spyder TL, Spyder E-99, Tippmann A-5 and a CCI Phantom VSC Pump marker.
My worry is that the Ion and SLG won't satisfy me. I'm interested in really getting back into the sport. Still on a recreational level with an interest in Speedball. If I enjoy it enough then at some point I might even try to get into some sort of competition. But that's further down the road. Right now I'd like a marker that can still be some fun in the woods, but will allow me to keep up with some recreational speedball games.
I think the Matrix Rail (PMR) is what I should be looking at. Seems that it can be upgraded as my skills increase on the speedball field, it's not too costly to start with, and if speedball doesn't turn out to be my thing it seems that it will still be a good woodsball marker. Is this correct?
SilverSubie2.5
01-29-2008, 05:16 PM
Yes, the PMR would be great to get you going again. It would be very easy to customize to your liking as you progress, in whatever direction you choose. You could really go either way though, with either the ION or the PMR. It may help having the PMR as the Proto/DYE line is rather extensive and having the knowledge of how they work may help you later on if you choose to go with something higher end.

I have interest in used as long as the condition is good.
Think I'd also be interested in an SLG, from what I hear it is pretty much like a PMR except it's lighter and smaller but can be upgraded the same.
If that's the truth then I'd be interested in either a PMR or a SLG used or new depending on condition and price.

Hm, this may interest you then:
http://i32.tinypic.com/w15gds.jpg
My friends PMR with the following upgrades:
-UL frame
-UL barrel
-NDZ parts (eye covers, bolt cap, feedneck)
The upgrades purchased separately would total $300. I'll talk with him if you're interested, last I checked he was looking for $300 for everything. I've shot the gun myself and it works great, no notable wear either. It's been sitting at my house since September or so.
TrickyDik
01-30-2008, 07:40 PM
That's more then I want to pay. $200 is what I'll offer. At the most $230 since a new one is $250 and this one is used.
