So I've been toying with the idea of getting in on one or the BMW club days (or any other really) at Limerock and have talked to a coworker who has done this. He said that depending on how many members race, it probubly wouldn't be that expensive for a day full of racing...
Does anyone else have more info about these days and what it takes to get in on the fun??

Ive heard that SCDA is a great group to do track days with. I'm totally interested in doing this. Im sure Mike and Rick would be interested too.
Usually you abide by the rules that the club that is hosting has put into place. If their drivers cannot be allowed to race without a track license, you need to get the license before you can race as well. You may need a ride along for a few laps and an instructor lap too.
The BMW clubs seem to be more inviting for non class cars then the others are.
You can also do this through the SCCA as they do have track days at NHIS, not just autocross. I wanted to do it but just couldn't devote the time needed at the time, to get licensed.

Also a great bunch of people at http://www.emraracing.org/ . They do time trials and road racing. Time trial days would be what you're looking for. This would be the least expensive way to go but PDA, although a bit pricey, would give you the best bang for the buck with huge amounts of track time.

I have done events with all three of those clubs. The scda club is the only one you do not have to be a member of to drive on the track. The main thing that you have to know is that no matter which group you sign up with it is NOT a race.If you have never been on the track before no matter what you think your driving experience is you will have to ride with an instructor until they feel that you are able to drive on your own. This usually take a few events because most groups require a certain amount of seat time as well. Porsche club and BMW club both require you to have memberships and most of the time you have to have one of those vehicles to be a member whether its a car or bike. It usually costs about 250 for a full day at the track plus personal expenses such as food, fuel , and if something breaks. Let me know if anyone has more questions. I am still a member of the Porsche club and hope to be driving again this year if I can get my car rebuilt. On another note they do offer racing but it is a whole other world of rules, and seat time, not to mention car maintenance, setup, regulations for your setup, and money.

My recommendation is to go to one of the events and see if its what you want to do whether its auto x, driver education, racing, time trial, etc. get an idea of how the club runs, if you like the atmosphere and the track itself some places do not have the best facilities and the tracks are very rough. Just something to keep in mind. You do not have to be a member to walk around the pits and paddock to watch.

COM also does track events and is novice friendly.
Make sure you have extra cash on hand to replace anything that breaks.
Brakes become a serious wear item on the track and so do tires. And if you can't afford to lose the car you should drive with that in the front of your mind.

Remember, $145 a day is only the entrance fee. You can and WILL use up a lot of rubber, a lot of brakes and quite possibly a lot of car.
By use up car you mean.....BOOM?

No boom boom man. You will prolly go through a set of brake pads, take a few 16ths off your tires, you will hear rattles and squeeks you never heard before, burn fuel like you've never burned before, but it's all good fun.:D Of course, this all depends on how much track time you get and how much you push the car.
I'm down for this but not in my soob because it is disfunctional.

Go with Ian and SCDA, you'll have a blast. I ran at NHIS a few times way back in the day with my ITR and had a fantastic time. Learned tons from the instructors at the time. Well worth the experience.
Stock up on suntan lotion, water, brake pads, fluid, spare set of wheels/tires is nice, a good air pressure gauge and clip board to keep track of your pressures / times, and a chunk or two of 2x4 to chock your wheels so the car doesn't roll away. Don't use the e-brake in the pits after a hot lapping session.
If you can flip the extra bucks for a garage / paddock spot, get it, it's nice to park indoors if it's hot and sunny outside.
