So i stopped by Joe's today to steal some beer and check out if i could run a WRX exhaust. Bad news; i cant. Good news; I finally got some pictures of the rig and found out some new info on it!

2004 Subaru Baja turbo
100,000 miles
5-spd
K&N drop-in filter

Before i bought it they did a new timing belt, replaced the brakes, and put on some new All-seasons.

Onto the pictures

So future plans...

horns to not make it sound like a toy (ExeterSubaru?)
seat heaters (Subimods?)
possible carbon fiber hood (the damn stock one is heavy with a capital R)
headlights painted and amber removal
offroad lights
stage 2 stuff to start with
suspension (going up)
bigger tires, cooler wheels.

When I had mine I couldn;t believe just how heavy the oem hood felt

I'd like to see intake, turboback and tune on a Baja real bad :)

Still times when I miss mine...

Nope. bastard was heavier then my 08 hood was! im guessing steel just like the new ones. probably could drop 20-30 pounds off the front with a carbon hood.

IDK... thoughts?

Joe

its different. the little grill things are too tall. plus i think it requires a lot more pieces. i don't think that will fit right.

There's small writing under the picture that says the picture is a general picture and that the part may vary. It does say it's a Subaru certified OEM replacement, and I found it using the part number for the bumper cover

I love tube bumpers! I would put one on my legacy, but I'm going to sell it in the spring so there's no point, but I made some for my GL wagon, and the look so much better than stock! Sucks that the bumper got messed up though. Usually I take mine off and heat them up and try to get them back into shape the best I can, It works okay, I mean you can tell something happened, but there isn't a giant dent after...

BogeyBones

So... little known fact:

A 2004 baja going at 10-15mph, when colliding with a 2002 Nissan Pathfinder, will cause $5,500 worth of damage to the pathfinder,

BUT!!!!!

It will not. Break. Fog lights.

45 horseft-lbs precisely.

So here's a 'rendering' of what my baja would look like with possible mods:

http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/k543/PenguinSub/Baja/photoshopbaja1-1.jpg

The black would be spray-on bedliner (except for the grille, which would just be painted, and the lights are already black).

The offroad lights would also be something I have to buy, and I would have two offroad lights on my front bumper, as well.

Penguinetti
08-11-2011, 03:57 PM
I don't know how the bumper is. He has given me a couple of written and verbal updates about the bumper. It's tac welded. He couldn't get a baja to test it on, so he built a little rig to put on his wife's outback to test fit it to make sure it's the right size for the baja before he delivers. He said he would send pics. I've asked for pics. I'm still waiting on pics. It's been a month now. I would like the bumper done by now, but I'll accept pics of progress and a deadline.

I have neither. I'm a little frustrated.

Penguinetti
08-24-2011, 07:53 AM
Be interesting to see of it fits...

The whole reason this job is taking so long is because he made a bumper, then realised it was too tight of a fit, so he had to make a new bumper. So, I'm going to trust that he knows what he's doing with this jig and go with it.

back up plan?

:troll:

If it doesn't fit, I will send it back and ask for a full refund plus the cost of shipping it back. And then I will try to find someone local who can pull off a similar style bumper. But like I said, he's taken this long because he doesn't want to send a bumper that won't fit. So I'm gonna give him the benefit of the doubt on this one.

Penguinetti
09-09-2011, 07:23 AM
Okay, so after speaking with Le Joe about maintenance, I'm gonna go ahead and just put this 120,000 mile maintenance list...

...right....

...here...

120,000 mile service -
- Inspect drive belts
- Oil change (Add $10 for Synthetic Oil)
- Replace engine coolant and inspect system and hoses
- Replace/Clean air filter depending on what intake you have
- Spark plug replacement (stock or one step colder)
- Replace fuel filter (all cars)
- Replace brake fluid
- Inspect brakes and system
- Rotate/inspect tires
- Replace transmission and rear differential gear oil

for safe keeping. Right now I'm at 110k, but I don't want to forget later.

Actually, my cousin nick is out in Portland Oregon right now, which i was unaware of until this weekend. He said if the bumper isn't here yet, or I'm not happy with it, he would take a drive down to Eugene and pay a visit to the maker.

My cousin is not a small man in any sense of the word.

BUT!!!! After freezing the last paypal payment, mudrat finally got back to me with ALL the shipping details and not one, but TWO emails plus TWO text messages and TWO paypal messages. He apparently now has the ability to return all the messages immediately...

I would've, but he's the only one known in the country to do baja bumpers...

And no one on here said they could, or said I would need to find them a welder and a tube bender. Which is just not all that easy to come by...

A bit more rusty than I anticipated, but seeing as how it's raw steel and I'm damn sure he didn't do anything to keep it new looking... oh well.

The guys over at the linex place say they can linex the bumper for $100, and the rest of the 3 sides of the baja for a $100 a piece, totaling $400 total.

Thanks!

According to his disclaimer on a previous website (before he was banned from it) "It is Made out of 2" .120 wall tubing, All bracketry is 3/8 thick, it will accept a 4700 lb Warn winch or a 6800 lb ramsey winch up inside the bumper so it's protected, or I can mount a Receiver in the center so the Winch can be Stinger mounted...for use front or rear..? Also It comes with light tabs for a minimum of 4 lights and space for 6...... Also And by far the Best feature in My opinion, is that it Vastly improves your aproach angle by several inches"

Also, someone else who has one said he used it to pull a tree off the road. And no, I have no idea how big the tree was...

Speaking of which... how much for internal lighting? My dash has all but half the speedometer dark.

The Lighting Guru

I do full gauge cluster conversions for $100 plus supply cost. it usually rounds off to $130 total. It includes everything: removal and install of gauge cluster, gauge face sanding, LED install and wiring.

No... The interior lights are going red, and the shifter and e-brake boots are going black and red. The thought was to paint it whatever color now until I linex the sucker. The plan is to go black linex all around the car (front / rear bumpers, side paneling / trim). Also played with the idea of red linex.. :hide:

As for the tires... I was thinking the exact same thing when I was looking at the wheels on Saturday night at work. And last night/this morning coming home from work, too. But then I stopped myself. What do you think I could get for my tires and wheels together?

Funny you should ask. Today is exactly like the day last winter where I lost my old bumper.

Alas, I have not had to use it yet. BUT I do indeed still love the bumper setup. Although I haven't linexed it yet (due to a constrained cash-flow), I do plan on adding a little more after the holiday season / before the baby is born. So sometime between Jan and May.
