Now for the 08 UNH FSAE car

Formula SAE is an engineering competition to build a vehicle to be used for autocross. The competition is held in May in Michigan, around 150 schools from all over the world compete. This is the fifth year UNH has entered, we have 90% of the car designed and started fabrication just before Christmas. Check out unh.edu/fsae for more info/pictures.

These pictures are from the end of January, I will take some new ones in the next few days. At this point we were almost finished with the frame, and had started fabricating the upper and lower control arms. The engine (Yamaha yfz450) was mounted to the dyno stand waiting for a few parts.

If any of you are students at unh and would like to join the team let me know. We can always use more help.

Progress on the Frame:

This is the car from last year. (with the nose removed) The team placed 14th in the design presentation, tying with teams such as MIT, Cornell, University of Texas, and University of Western Australia. Overall the team placed 51st out of 130 registered teams.

I forgot to say this before, you don’t have to be an engineering student to help out with the car. We are a student organization as well as a ME senior project, so anyone can join.

When I first got my car I noticed the same two yellow bugeye wagons all the time in a lot. Now there are 4 or 5 wrx’s I see almost every day, and merrill0007’s sti which is cool. They are multiplying haha.

Defiantly, let me know when your around. The only good part about the winter parking ban is most of the lots are empty after midnight…. That picture was followed by a good 45 minutes of drifting/donuts. haha

Woooo, heading to UNH next year.:) Glad I'll be able to find plenty of Subie's around, but no cars for freshman FTL.:( Although I don't have much experience in the field, and won't be an engineering major, this does seem like something that sparks my interest...

I know a while back I use to see a 04 wrb sti all done up with a body kit and wheels at unh all the time when we did a few buildings there. he always threw up the shocker.

When I was a freshman at UNH, I had my car there from the first day I went to school till the day I graduated with my second degree.

Really? Hm. That's just what I was told. Maybe I'll look into it some more.

Just find friends/places to park. check with fraternities, they sometimes rent out spots per semester. I remember that we did at my house when I was there. I think it was 700 for the year or something like that. I will check with my house if you would like. NO cars get ****ed with in fraternity parking lots, I can assure you that.

Nay, not true lol. I'll keep that story to myself and the frat ****er who picked the wrong guy to piss off

So at least 1 car has been ****ed with at a frat parking lot lol. Then again I'm not afraid to **** with a frat brother. I gaurantee he and his buddies might get me in a battle, but in the war I can assure you I'll come out on top. But I'm sure it's generally safer then the other parking lots.

Sure, that would be great. Let me know!

How much power can you get out of that 450 thumper on the dyno? Just curious.

Nice STI BTW

I know you can buy a space at the durham market place too, I did that my second semester freshmen year.

Not sure yet, we are actually waiting for the dyno to be repaired before we can make some runs. The engine now has forged internals, and we are converting it to fuel injection, but unfortunately for the competition we need to run a 20mm restrictor. In past years the team has used yamaha R6 motors, but the restrictor chokes them quite a bit. So this year, we swapped to the yfz450 and saved a little over 60 pounds.
