View Full Version : Very Excited

I'm very excited! Not only do I get to install my new cat-back exhaust this week but I just found a learned some exciting information.

Some of you know about my lug-nut fiasco and some don't so here's the back story. I bought myself a set of 17x8 5x100 Rota Torques for my summer set of wheels. Before they arrived I ordered a set of Blue Work RS lugs. The lugs are super light, super strong and the blue matte finish makes me happy in my crotch area, ya I said it. So I receive the lugs, and the wheels and head to my buddys shop in Hampton to have the tires mounted and the wheels put on. Then we ran into the problem. Rota Torque holes are far smaller then anticipated for such a wide lug nut such as the Works. In fact if you were to use a normal 21mm socket you'd rip apart the wheel and never fit the lug on secure. I'm not a tool guy for the most and know more about your home tools then mechanic tools. I've never tried to play myself as a super mechanic and really only know general stuff. At any rate, we put the wheels on with some regular chrome spline lugs.

So all of the above took place a year ago. Flash forward to yesterday. I was on the night shift last night and had some extra time (try 12 hours extra time!) and started to browse the members gallery on nasioc. Then I came across this:

That's right, you're seeing what I'm seeing. A member with the same Rota Torques I have with the same Work RS lugs I have. So I message him and ask him. Apparantly, and I was dumb to this, but they sell the 21mm with a thin enough wall to install the work lugs. It's still a close call, but with a little care it works out in the end.

So now I'm pumped because I know these lugs will look real good with my WRB car and the Rota Torques. In addition I'll be ordering a Polyurethane V-Limited front lip when the weather gets better.

Sorry for the long post, but this little incident has been the bain of my existance for a year now and I tried to sell the lugs when I learned they wouldn't work. Now I'm happy I never found a buyer!

P.S. I'm aware how stupid this thread makes me look and I don't care!

Ya, going to have to talk Russel into taking some shots of the car this spring.

Car will have:

H-Tech Springs for a level lowering job
Rota Torques 17x8 w/Kuhmo Ecsta Tires
Work RS blue lugnuts
Cat-back Exhaust
Kartboy Shortshifter w/kb bushings
Polyurethane V-Limited Front Lip
'04 Tail Lights

And hopefully the woman gets me an interior and exterior detail for my birthday next month.

Yea, this is one of those fore-head slap deals. I should have known, but I've never claimed I'm a good mechanic lol.

That's awesome news, Nick. The Work lugs are going to look great on your car.

It's okay to get excited about our cars, we're enthusiasts! :D

And yes, photoshoot this spring!

Nick... you're a dork. ;)

Maybe you can let me know where to get said socket b/c I'm thinking about getting the red lugs (that look pink) when I get my gold wheels... hopefully soon. At least tell me where you can get one :)

Any parts store Amanda. It really depends on the wheel not necessarily the lugs.

Exactly what Terry said. For instance, Work lugs are wider then Rays lugs, and some wheels have a deeper pocket for the lug and a tighter fit then others. So it'll depend on what wheel and what manufacturer for the lug you'r looking at.

And yes...I'm a dork, I just can't help it sometimes :shrugs:

^^ All over nasioc man. Go to the vendors classifieds and look in the wheels and tires thread. The monthly specials in there are going to be the best prices you'll find.

Lol, I posted my last thread then went to nasioc and the first thread in the Wheels/Tires section was a direct link to thin walled sockets for high end rims. Here is the link! http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1421135

I got the lugs from www.rallysportdirect.com (http://www.rallysportdirect.com) about a year ago. I got them for $110 shipped because they were running a deal back then but now they list them at $130: http://www.rallysportdirect.com/shop/work-lug-nuts-p-2832.html. You'll need them in 12x1.25

Terry I picked up a 21mm socket at AutoZone today, the guy who owns the car pictured above says he used a Great Neck deep wall 21mm Socket which is what I picked up. When I put the lug in the socket, the socket extends just enough that you can see the silver socket ring around it. Should work, but if not then when the time comes I'll order a set of those ones you found on Nasioc. Bookmarked it for later. Thanks for the link!
