My buddy Tony just got a parking ticket up at UNH the other day. He brings an interesting question to me. He isn't a student and was just visiting a friend of his. He moves in a week to California for a new duty assignment. Do UNH Transportation Services tickets that are issued on UNH parking lots count like a parking ticket from the town of Portsmouth? In other words, he's curious of the consequences if he doesn't pay the ticket other then them threatening his car being booted or towed if found illegaly parked on UNH again (which he obviously has no worries since he'll be spending the next 4 years in California haha)? Do those types of parking tickets go on your record like regular town parking tickets?

I asked Jess but all she could tell me is what she's seen from friends with them being threatened with wheel boot, towing or not being allowed to receive their degree/graduation if they don't pay, but obviously none of that would affect by friend Tony.

I have had a ticket on my motorcycle for the last 4 years. Been stopped about 6 times since I got it, never been brought up. I have been to UNH many times, overnight included, with no issues!

I was told by someone who use to work at UNH security and handled the tickets that they do get levied against you some how... maybe against your credit or some crap like that... either way, it was enough to make me pay the ticket.

yeah I always paid them but I know some people that havent and all they did was call his house. I dont think they can do anything about it, exept tow your car on the spot.

I got a ticket and it taken care of the next day by my boss. we were building kingsbury hall or something like that. It was a few years ago. He said the ticket didn't mean much though.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't go against your driving record, even with it being out-standing. I wasn't sure about the credit thing, and I don't think they can do that. Doesn't make any sense that because if you have an out-standing phone bill and it goes to a collection agency it won't cause anything negative on your credit because bills like that aren't recorded on credit scoring.

Perhaps someone can correct me, or validate?

So I guess I was wrong. If the parking ticket stays with UNH then nothing can happen to you except your vehicle being booted or towed. If the ticket goes to a collection agency then it can impact your credit score. Guess I'll tell my buddy to challenge or pay it off!

they do go to a collection agency after a long time. I got a ticket and had Jenn try to dispute it. It then got put into her name and address and all the letters got sent to her house where her mother loses it or throws it away. needless to say, they found the one from the collection people...
