Casual pickup game, BYOG, BYOWoodenBat

Charter Oak park in Manchester, Good Friday at 4:30.

We don't even wear cleats or anything like that, we're lucky if we can even get somebody to show up with catcher's gear. Think beer league.

do you have to reserve the field there? any consideration to softball? i've played pick up baseball games before where a couple people got messed up pretty bad.

depending on when i get out of work and what's going on at home i'd play. you have a head count yet? i'd try and make it for a game, but probably not a home run derby.

I'll try and make it as often as I'm invited, I just tried to get something together with some old friends this time, and we need some more people. You let me know.

I'm banking on some live music for after we play!

Well no, we're wingin it. There's like 4 fields there, we usually get something, even if we have to hike up the hill to the big field out back. I'm inviting some softballers from work, if there's enough of a vote I suppose it could happen, but generally, we play hardball. How are those people getting messed up so badly? I've seen guys take pop flys to the face, line drives to the chest and shins, they were all able to continue the game. Basically you just have to be a little quicker with the bat.
I'll do some scouting tomorrow and see what the head count really will end up being. Right now I believe it's at a whopping 4.

Come on people.

a pitcher with a shattered eye socket, although we were using an aluminum bat. another guy at the plate took one in the temple and ended up with a moderate concusion (which sort of put a damper on the day since we were having the post game rager at his house). compoud fracture to a collar bone (wait, that was softball)... stuff like that.

you've seen guys take pop flys to the face? you guys get wasted before you play? this is making me laugh pretty hard for some reason. although i'm sure it's not all that funny to the dude eating a pop fly.

ok those sound pretty bad. But yeah, aluminum bats are for kids, girls, and softball players, real men hit it with their wood. :spin:

there's this local kid who used to always just see us playing and come join, not sure about his birth name, but it's Sloth in our books, named after the Goonies character. But yeah, I'd say 80% of the projectile hits were dead on to his face and shins. He took it like a champ every time, just picked up the ball and threw it back into play. The downside is that he would have to borrow a glove, and everytime we got a glove back from him it smelled like Cheez-its and farts. I hope he's still meandering around the area.
I ran this by a few at work, I never asked for any commitment to this, so whoever shows, shows. It'd be nice to get a little bit of a game going, but it'll be a skeleton crew.
It'll be nice out, and we'll have drinks at some point, so I really don't care, I'm having a great day and that's my final answer.
