Yup, its another "hi, i'm the new guy" thread.

just moved up to NH from the bile state below (MA).
bought a 2008 OBS in Blue to mark the move.
no mods, yet. hoping for a carputer and some lighting changes, possibly some MPG improving mods (ColdAir, A/C override, etc).

anyway, thats my subie for now.

Hi everyone, thanks for the warm welcome!
No pics yet.. i need to give a carwash before i put her up on the interwebs :)

To those with OBS's, what kind of MPG are you getting? Over the past 8 fillups i've been averaging 28.5 mpg; but i know she can do better.. What kinds of mods do you think would improve MPG? ColdAirIntake/other?

Mod shortlist for hopefully by end of summer/start of winter:

* SunTech Tint (35% ish): for summer sun reduced heat.
* Hood/gril bra (for protecting the paint), preferrably Clear (hopefully something made out of the Zagg InvisibleSheild - or anything stronger than the 3M crap).
* All Weather floormats
* Mudflaps
* In NH, any thought to installing the OEM engine warming (plug in) kit?
* Stock wheels/tires in snow in the NH winters: need winter tires?

* Imho, i think the stock headlight bulbs are pretty horrible and need replacement, any ideas for the bestest whitest bulb replacement? best replacements for the fog light bulbs? (possibly this too: OEM 08-11 Subaru Impreza WRX STi Fog Light Protector)

* I also want to install some kind of LED external ground lighting (only on while internal dome lights are on - for safety at night while approaching car).. know of any addons for that?

* Thoughts about the "Big Three" upgrades while installing the Carputer/CarPC (Specifically the main battery ground, the alternator ground, and the positive line between the battery and the alternator)?

* RearSwayBar: to reduce body roll and improve handling, thoughts? difficulty?
(Parts required: WRX rear sway bar, endlink, and the mounting hardware.)

* Replacement mirrors with blinkers (signals) - heard the STI mirrors may work, cost of the STI side mirrors? color match (2008 OBS blue)? (This is Coolness factor, but not something to be done before the CarPC below)



I'm a computer guy (but not a car guy), so I'm going to be putting in a CarPC/Carputer. This is going to be a BIG install.

Want to :
* investigate replacing the dash gauges with a display from ODB2
* replace the 6cd changer with a computer controlled HDradio receiver/head unit that connects to the steering wheel controls
* primary system to have touch screen with multiple SSD's for massive storage space for mp3's
* front and rear facing cameras with gps location and speed streaming to the disk
* rear facing camera to display to primary display when in reverse
* possibly a CPU and software powerful enough for speech recognition to reduce distracted driving
* Bluetooth for cellphone/etc connections
* USB ports for cellphone charging and/or tethering to CarPC for internet connection
* 2nd or 3rd displays for rear seat entertainment for movies&games, etc

Yes this is a big upgrade, anyone with experience doing CarPC's in Subaru's would be super appreciated and probably paid for some above&beyond help on the planning and execution.
