basically... i was stoped behind traffic because someone was making a left hand turn, guy in a 06 dodge dokata must not of seen me and hit me. he said he was doing 45-50mph and i was at a dead stop. my passenger had whip lash and i have a sore back. im just waiting to see what hurts tomorrow as it always takes a day to kick in...

this blows! i dont have full coverage but because the other guy is at fault there insurance "should" cover my car. ive only had it for 1 month! i was going to get full coverage once i purchased my beater car! wtf.

yea, guess they other guy had full coverage and state farm. my insurance company said i should hear from state farm in the next day or two. as long as they accept the other guy was at fault (which he is) they they will cover my car, and a rental. i just hope it all goes right. im pissed tho. i cant close my trunk and its going to rain tomorrow! i had to buy a car cover lol!
if it is totaled what are some figures i should expect to see? i purchased the car for $8400 1 month ago with 89k on the clock. as you can see it was a very clean car :( urgh. im going to start seaching for another aspen white bugeye, what are the odds of finding another one as clean as this one?! :( this is discouraging....
in the back of my head i only hope they total it if i wont lose $$$ from my purchase price, only reason is this will now be on the carfax and hurt the resale value even more if i ever did sell it way down the road... plus its hard as hell to paint match white!

that is not totalled.

and 45 50mph.. you would be in the hospital, the sube would have a cracked tunnel..and totalled chances would happen then...and you would be lucky.

that looks like a 10mph hit.

sedans are squishy there... no structure. they are a curvy loyale sedan variant.

I had a white one. totalled for real.

give that a ten ounce hammer and get back on the road. what is wrong with you.

Mean to total a car: when repair exceeds 70%-80% of vehicle value.

I'd say it will be pretty close to totaled..

What will work in your favor.. Find out what software they are using to value your car. Certain programs return different values..

Gather a grouping of 10 different like Subarus in your area.. Only thing to watch for is the specs match, colors are not to big of an issue.

Compute the average low and average high of the group of cars.

Add the average low and average high and divide by 2..

This is what you most likely will get.

Also keep records of any maintenance and or accessories you added to the car, it will add to the final value.

Good luck.

Get your back and neck checked out.. S curvature damage can occur to the spinal cord with as little as 5mph. Get a lawyer.

BogeyBones

yea, you could possibly get more than just to get a new car... talk about a life full of neck pain... compensation?

hiprsha666
05-03-2011, 10:18 PM
ya, make sure the insurance company knows about any neck/back pain. See a doctor too just so there is record of it.

I hope your right, but u don't get a feel of how bad it is until u see it in person. The guythat hit us said straight to the cops face he was doing 45-50mph, I don't know why a person would lie and say they were going faster then they really were? Usually it's the other way around no? I honestly think we just got lucky. Put it this way, the speed limit on the road is 40 or 45mph, they guy disnt touch his brakes and sailed right thru us. Luckily I have a tendency to look in my rear view every time I stop and I saw a glimpse of his bumper flying towards us, sub concensly I put both hands on the wheel (I never drive like this) and turned to the right whole slamming the brake. If I didn't I would of been pushed right into the person stoped in front of me.
My lower back really hurts today and my buddy is hurting more. We just got out of work and only made it 1 mile :(

CanonShooter

Agreed. How does the gap look between the back edge of the rear door and fender? As long as that gap is still there and reasonably straight, you're looking at a trunk lid, tailight and bumper cover as the main parts. This may even be an opportunity to have the entire car re-sprayed for a few bucks more.

Good luck, I hope it works out for you!

I sure hope u are right. I love this car and take huge pride in owning it. I just know if it involves any structure/frame damage it's a very good chance of being totaled, especially for it's age. Guess we wait and see what there insurance says when they decide to call

it drives fine, the cop let me drive it home from wilton (70 miles) the brakes lights work still lol. other then a gaping hole and the worry of it getting a soaked trunk it drove fine and straight. its just cosmetic.
how do insurance companies come up with a figure for the "buy back"?

Bu11dogg2

Buy back is basically what they would get from a salvage yard.

I would expect it to be $2500-$5000

Buy back: they say you will be givin $8000 for them taking the car, buy back for 2500-5000 and they will just take that out of what they where going to give you. Sell the engine and drive train for 5000 and you made your money back. Or you can buy a rs/forester/legacy and do a swap with everything you have.

$5000 is extremely high for that Engine and transmission unless he includes the harness and cluster

since im buying it back i was able to put it up on the lift and take the bumper cover off etc. after looking at it some more i think i may try and save her. im going to get a quote on what a shop would charge to straighten the quarter and lower panel etc...
depending how much it will cost i may just go ahead and fix her up and have a little money left over. i know it will have a rebuilt title but it wont do anything but hinder resale value in which i wouldn't be planing on selling it anytime soon. if i can get it straightened for under $2k i think ill be in good shape, any more and i may part it out.

it is slightly pushed it, maybe 1/8th of an inch right where the curve for the wheel is.

well i got a quote to get it fixed, its slightly more then id like to put into it but not as bad as i thought. i think im going to try selling it as is, maybe someone who has connections and can get it fixed will end up with it, or maybe someone that has more room then i do to part it out. if your interested in the car let me know. it runs and drives great! lol

Bu11dogg2
05-11-2011, 07:17 PM
KBB is a joke. Walk into a dealership with a KBB quote and see what they say

NADA is more accurate.

OP, I would contact your insurance company to see if they will even cover a "rebuilt" titled car.

I know mine won't.

DHGurs
05-11-2011, 07:23 PM
KBB is usless. KBB is a business designed to get you to click on their ads to generate as much revenue as possible. They don't care what you get for your trade, they just want you to click on their site and their ads. Example:

KBB says my car's value with 15k miles is $35,700!!!

MSRP new was $34k

Do the same with many late model Japanese cars (Civics, Tacomas, Accords, Legacys, WRXs) and they will all come out to suddenly be worth more than new.
