So I decided that this is gonna be the year I do it.
I'm gonna buy a Motorcycle :)
I'm not looking to be a biker boy and get a 20k crotch rocket and with a cute matching leather out fit
I want a sub-$3000 classic rider, like a 1980's Suzuki or Kawasaki.
I don't need need much power..... i'd probably kill myself on anything bigger then a 750  I just want something to cruise on.
I'd prefer to buy from a dealer because I don't want a bike that needs work or is in questionable shape.
any suggestions on brands or places to buy?

You will kill yourself on a 600 too.

My only issue with craigslist/ebay is that I don't really know that much about bikes :(
I don't want to spend much and I'm not expecting much in return. I just don't want a bike with issues.
I'll shoot you a PM if I find a bike I am interested in :)

I want a cbr600 but my parents wont let me get one. They not afraid that I would kill myself but that someone would kill me. Cant say I blame them, if I had a kid I wouldn't let them get one either.
Kinda off the subject but I just figured I would through that out there.

There is a great shop in madbury called Morrisey cycle - family owned business for years - that's where I take my bike. Guy does good work for cheap. I am sure he wouldn't have a problem taking a looksie to make sure the bike is safe.
I'll vouch for murph, he has had a bike (err had a bike) longer than I have + knows his bike ****.
I would say - make sure it idles smoothly - rough idle could mean you need your carbs cleaned, especially if it starts to struggle when you give it a little gas. Carb cleanings are not cheap, but perhaps a bit less expensive on a cruiser than a sport bike.
Make sure chain doesn't have a lot of play in it. Make sure brakes are in good condition, oil is good, you know basic stuff you would look for in a car too.
Make sure tires aren't old and cracked, rims aren't warped. I'll try to think of more stuff.

Only bikes I know well are Honda CB750s.
Most of the bikes I have had were CB750s, and I have had a few. ;)
They can be found in good shape fairly cheap, run forever if they have been maintained properly and are pretty easy to work on.
Ok, enough about MY obsession with them. lol
Great bikes though: good compromise between performance and comfort.
And can usually be found anywhere from $250 (mechanic special) to about 2k (mint, low miles.)
There are a lot of Japanese bikes from the mid 70s to late 80s that are worth buying, but it is best to have somebody familiar with bikes to get a good one.
Even at a dealer.
Good luck. :)

Hmm that's a good question. I don't think he sells them, He is mostly a snowmobile dealership I think. When/if you go there, don't even bother going into the showroom, lots of people make that mistake. Just head left of that right into the shop, that's where the customers go. Its kinda awkward.

I had a Honda CB 650 for a starter bike a long ass time ago. It was a great bike. Plenty of Power for a starter and easy to fix.
I also like Buell.

Sigh.
Motorcycles were once my life. :( I never thought I'd see a day when I wouldn't swing my leg over one... and now it has been years since I've ridden.
Still, I hold onto the thought that someday I'll get back on.
My CBR, bought brand new in 2002. I still have her, with less than 3,500 on the odometer.

I always wanted a motor cycle but I am afraid of other drivers. I went through the material on how to get a license, but I never followed through.
