Ok simple question, on a stock 08 wrx how wide can you go without rolling fenders. The wheels i am looking at are 18x8 and 18x8.5 rotas. Is there a rule of thumb or do i need to know ofsets and whatnot.

Depends on ride height and offset. Most I have seen will rub. I would stay 8" wide, probably a 42-45 offset. I think there is a sticky somewhere.

What offset are you considering? Is the car lowered?

The offset is the big number here, not wheel width.

One that i am looking at says the offset is 48. Which is a 18x8.

We fit 17x9's, 38 offset, on a stock 09 WRX. :dunno:

I also like the 18x8.5 rota grids which are 44mm offset

The torques come in 18x8 and 8.5 and have the same offset. Not sure if i prefer the torque or the grids

Either of those wheels will fit with no rubbing assuming less than 245 width. I posted this pic in another thread, these are 18x8.5 +44 Grids with 255/35 tires, he needed to roll the rear fenders.

oK i just read up on this and understand how the sizing works now.
So if I go 225/40/18 i can go 18x8 and my car will be at the stock height and correct?
If I go 235/40/18 My car will sit an inch taller than stock height?
neither will require fender rolling.
confirm or deny?

Deny. The key is the second number, your aspect ratio. It is the side of your tire, your side wall based on the width of your tires. "40" is 40% of the 225 or 235mm width. On my DD'er OBS I run 225/45/17. now a "new factory size" outer tire circumference was around 215/45/17 to match the size of 205/55/15 "kinda". It doesn't JUMP the size of everything but it does add up after all the math settles.
