If you could buy Royal Purple for $3.99 a quart, would you go on a buying spree?

Well... for personal use or resale? For resale, no... for personal use I might buy a few quarts to make it through a few changes...

i got them at autozone. the only place around that has any left would be in biddeford.

i walked in and we like, $3.99 i'll take it all. and they were all confused. apparently no one goes to autozone to buy royal purple.

Using technology and innovation, Car manufacturers like Audi, BMW and Lexus have built engines that self test their oil and let you know when to change it.

I have a meter on my dash that tells me when i'm due for service based on fluid levels, mileage and time.

The Boxer motor is a mighty fine motor, but a bit behind the technology curve.

Whatever floats your boat. We all know even non synthetic oil will last 30k plus.

Doesn't mean as the oil is breaking down and becoming dirty from use that you should drive it that many miles. If that is what Audi says good. I still wouldn't because the filter doesn't magically clean itself and unburnt fuel still builds up in the oil etc etc etc.

^^ Agreed with the boxer not being developed. And, stereotypically the boxer motors are built for performance, which, at least not ALL of the german motors all. I know that some are, but not all. Oil will get beaten up more in a WRX than the "typical" A4 owner. Know what I mean?

But, back to what I was saying. I dont think that ANY oil should be in your car for more than 7.5k miles, regardless. I am not sure if any people on here read Subaru Drive magazine, but subaru released a statement a few months back saying that anyone with a subaru turbocharged motor should go no longer than 3 3/4 months or 3750 miles without an oil change due to its "high performance" usage.

Sheesh, way to be behind the times! I believe this is the latest from Subaru.

Under normal driving conditions, the recommended oil and oil filter change interval for turbo vehicles is every 3,750 miles or four months, whichever comes first. However, for vehicles driven in conditions beyond normal, such as racing conditions, the oil and oil filter may require more frequent changing.

Important: A “track day” or autocross event requires an oil and oil filter change immediately before and immediately after the event. Make sure to check other engine fluid levels as well.

Before and after every autox? Now that may be a little excessive.

I read a pretty good article about the break down of oil and how manufactures are able to sample and determine remaining life.... I'll have to see if I can find it.

Ok ok, I'll let this one slide.:)

But is this deal available at all Autozone's? If so, I'll have to go check if the Derry store has anything.

You are joking right?

You have heard of Bimmers going in for an oil change, not having something reset, and driving off the lot with the car telling you its still time to change the oil.. its a glorified odometer. It is not as complicated as you would think.

and every chevy I have been in thats less than 3 years old does it also.... so its not so special (yet we still don't have it)

Maybe the newer cars are getting more bad ass. Who knows. Delphi was making a sensor for oil quality a while ago that through some magic measured the quality of the oil.

I can't see it going into production cars. I don't know price but I bet it is pricey as helllll.

Well I just went to look these things up and Audi used teh delphi sensor on their cars. I don't know which ones exactly but good for them. Of course it can be a bad thing... because it says it can monitor and tell if you have been beating the **** out of your car through the oil and that sensor.

It calculates the average RPM's, type of driving, and average temperature to determine when its best to change the oil.

But it doesnt actaully check the oil. In fact it will never know when you change the oil till you tell it. Therefore its just an odometer.....

There has also been alot of attacks on BMW recently for changing their maintenance cycle. Nothing changed in the oil/engines yet the time between maintenance cycles doubled...

What changed? BMW NOW PAYS FOR MAINTENANCE ON NEW CARS... what a coincidence!!!!
