So this noise got really loud today, it was very soft before, so I thought I would just adjust my valves later. Any ideas what is it? My dad said its valve ticking and to adjust the valves. If it is that any tips?
Thanks

Lifter tick probably. It's very common in the genus of Subaru.

I just took off the valve covers, but couldn't get them out completely, but I can move the lifters with my fingers about 1mm each way.

Adjuster the valves and started it. Piston shattered and bent a rod. It wrecked my head and destroyed my cylinder walls. So its done

probably getting a new motor on Monday. Will post pictures or the carnage in a little while. And Nemesis, what happened/ is happening to your engine? I may be splitting my block tomorrow to see just what went wrong, but it looks as though part of the piston was fractured by the wrist pin and just gave way after all that time :(

Cylinder 4, Can't really see in this picture, but there are chunks of cylinder wall missing:

What I found of piston 4 as of right now:

The head to valve 4, it is trashed, and other side has dents from the piston metal too:

Hopefully get a new engine soon and get back on the road

EEEK!!! Well cylinder 4 is always first to go. Sorry to hear. You can always send it to the machine shop and order up some 11 or 12:1 Wiseco pistons! When something breaks... GO BIG!!!

I might build this block if I can as a second engine. What pistons would you recommend and what rods? It has a brand new crank in it too :/ so no use letting that go to waste.

You will need/want to get a new crank.

Dam and I had like two EJ251 Long blocks that I got rid off about 2 weeks ago. Only thing I have left is EJ251 Heads from an 05 Forester with only 2K miles and one bent valve. But that wouldn't work on the RS because of all the extra sensors and stuff it has.

As I said Wiseco pistons but be ready cause they aren't cheap. And stay with 251 rods not enough reason to go to forged rods and WRX/STi rods are shorter

Nevermind on the building it, just looked at it again, and the marks are too deep to bore out, so that is a no go. Found an engine in RI with 50k miles, hopefully getting that tomorrow

As long as your crank will still turn you should be fine taking it apart. The hardest part for me was getting to the wristpins on the back on the block behind the plate that is screwed in, and I just shocked them out.

For the screws lol? That won't work. . And do get the wristpins out, i bent and cut a flathead screwdriver to have something to pull on them with. That took a while.

Slowboy Racing/Built Industries has a special going on Subaru Pistons and rods still going on I believe.
