View Full Version : Comcrap HD DVR or Tivo HD box?
My dad finally got a nice tv and now he needs HD. He is stupid when it comes to electronics. He knows how to use tivo so i'm kinda pushing for that. It'll take him a year to figure out how to use the comcrap dvr.
Does anyone local have comcrap DVR? How much does the HD DVR box cost per month with the DVR and HD service on top of standard (i think) cable?
Would it be worth is to get the tivo HD box for 300 and then get a cable card from comcast? The tivo service is 12.95 a month.

why does everyone keep telling me that?
Really, i dont use dvr, i would if i could record a channel in the background as i watch something else. Like yours terry, that thing is sick. But its prolly $$$, right?

I would recommend going comcrap with it, dvr and tivo service together through them is 16.00/month
using a seperate tivo box w/ comcast service would be more confusing for pops to use, and you dont have to spend the 3 bills for the box
and you can record one channel while watching another with the comcrap dvr box
dvr is the ****....

+1 for comcast dvr. if your tivo box ****s the bed, you go out and buy another one. if your comcast one ****s, u get a new one for free. also, you can upgrade (recently they went from 80gb to 160gb boxes) for free

that is incorrect anthony. only dual tuner dvrs can do that. tivo and comcast still offer single tuners as well as dual tuners. infact, you can get some with 3 tuners (records 2 other channels, watch 1 which is recording live)

the tivo service that gets downloaded to the comcast dvr sucks, its definately got some bugs to work out.

that being said, the comcast dvr service has some bugs too. thankfully firmware upgrades, hardware upgrades, and software updates are all free.
well, it looks like i'll be pushing for the comcrap box then. thanks for the info.

I would go w/ the comcast dvr without tivo service, until they fix some of the problems. I had Tivo through comcast for a while and it completely crapped out. It wouldnt record any of my shows and it would take like 30 seconds to react to the buttons i pushed on the remote. Not to mention, out of all of the customers that we have insalled this service for, most of them are getting rid of them after only about a month. It is only $3 more a month so if you really want to try it out, it wont break the bank.

ya my bad on the jargon there, by separate input i meant separate input w/ its own tuner.
kb that's good info to know. i am not sure what i am going to do down the road, i had/have a mythtv setup, but then zap2it labs shutdown their data direct service, and i haven't signed up for schedules direct.
hmm...
going to have to figure this out for july.
then again, you might just catch me with a satellite receiver if we have a window with a clear view :)

dont even attempt to have cable service, let alone dvr service, when it snows, rains, or strong overcast with dish.

eh its kinda over hyped. there can be problems with satellite reception but keep in mind that most all cable companies pull their signals down from satellites too! granted they are much larger, and heated and whatnot...
plus who cares if its free... :D
then again i might cave for fios is its offered. always wanted it.
