Was looking at the bb. pearl before I got this phone, Didn't want to pay the extra $40 a month data plan on top of what I was all ready paying.
That is definitely a nice looking phone rockets.

yeah i don't want to get stuck with an expensive data plan either...
best thing about it is that i am putting it on my dad's family plan. so the phone bill jumps down from 50$/month to probably less than 30$/month

I just did the opposite, dad booted me off his haha. The whole reason for getting a new phone.

if anyone is thinking about signing on with sprint or verizon for another contract, check out helio. newer company that runs on sprints cmda network, roams free on verizon cdma network, and uses sprints evdo network (crushes atts gsm islow network).
basically you get the best of both words with verizon and sprint coverage. plans start at around 65$ but have unlimited data + 500 minutes.

These look pretty cool, but I would definitely make sure you get your hands on one to try it out before you decide on it. The most important thing in my eyes is the efficiency of use, layout of software, how well the touchscreen system works, etc. Many new phones that are coming out that are much like the iPhone are very similar in specs, but the iPhone has a tremendous advantage over them in the operating system. Just saying, it's a good idea to make sure that it does what it is designed to do well.

the thing that i see that really sets the iphone apart is the touch screen. the various touch screens ive played with are not sensitive enough. including hte voyager

I have my old moto razr, volume buttons don't work, it's slow as hell, battery is shot, and the bottom half of the screen does't work. It's a Verizon phone.

the glyde is for verizon. i'm sure you could unlock it though and use it with any CDMA service provider.

Hmmmmm. You willing to part with it for nothing? Half my razr is dead too. Maybe I can make the twin into one good razr.

If pops doesn't want it it's yours. I told him last weekend he could look at it and see if he wants it.

Virgin Mobile formally seals the deal on Helio acquisition

We know, the little possibility that the whole deal could fall apart has been keeping you wide awake for months, but at long last, you can push aside your anxiety and hit the sack. Virgin Mobile USA announced today that it had "completed its acquisition of Helio," and all of the terms put forth on June 27th (http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/06/27/virgin-mobile-to-buy-helio-for-39-million-in-equity/) were used in the final close. Aside from garnering all the necessary regulatory approvals, Helio shareholders SK Telecom and EarthLink have received 13 million shares of Virgin Mobile USA Class A common stock, with a value of around $38 million. It's also noted that both SK Telecom and Virgin Group will each invest a cool $25 million in Virgin Mobile USA for preferred shares. And then, there was one (http://www.engadgetmobile.com/category/mvnos/).

UPDATE:
do not buy a GLYDE.
the touchscreen craps out and starts having a mind of its own after a while. just stopped by my local VZW shop, and they are sending my a new voyager free of charge on monday.
it was cool in the beginning, but there are definite physical component layout issues that mess with the capacitive sensitive touchscreen. it just starts going hog wild, and pressing things on its own.
so, ya: voyager here i come:

i currently have my second glyde, the first had an OS crash that made it so the screen would stay white even after a reboot. you could'nt do anything unless you were being called adn even then you would have to remember where the answer button was supposed to be on the touch screen. along with that, the screen calls people in your pocket, (thanks glyde for calling my boss at 3am that night), you will touch a button and it will select a totally different one like 3/4 of the time. THIS PHONE BLOWS. the only good thing about it is the horisontal slide keyboard. phone = poop.
