I managed to purchase my first Subaru just in time for salt and snow season. I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations on a good car wash place. I'm probably going to be pretty neurotic about keeping it shiny for the first few payments hehe...

There are 2 in Rochester that seemed good but I was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions.. I'm not worried so much about price as I am getting scratched and just bad washing from the local gas station.

Touch free, laser wash is the only option :)

It doesn't get your car as clean, but also you don't get scratches.

I also suggest going to the do it yourself places. This gives you a chance to get in underneath the wheel wells and in the spring/strut assemblies and it gets stuff like that clean that an automatic place just wont get to. I usually go to an auto place, spray the car down really really well to get all the salt/sand off, then go a half mile down the road to an auto place, and have that finish, then chamois it,

That's actually a great idea Terry. I may actually have to start doing that.

You shoudl at least do an underbody wash!

There is a good one over by the meadows in Dover.

Underbodywash and standard wash is like $10

Alternatively you can bring your car here for detailing :)

Good call on the do it yourself places. My white car is anything but white at the moment and I'm trying desperately not to take it to the car wash every other day.

I used to be a civil engineer right out of college and designed two car wash site plans.

The only thing to keep in mind is that a percentage of the water is reclaimed. The floor drains typically lead to a settling tank where most of debris is settled out and pumped back into the car wash. But the problem is salt does not nor the fine particles in the water. So you are spraying some of that on your paint.

But in the end it all looks pretty.

Yeah that is definitely the crappy part of the automatic ones where they recycle the water.

I just use the hose here at work and spray in the wheel wells and sale deposit areas under the doors and stuff.

There is one on Layfayette Rd in Portsmouth, across from Papa Ginos. I always go there, and you don't have to worry about clearance issues b/c it is a flat bay; no driving onto a single wheel ramp/thing. Great for anyone with a lowered vehicle and those who don't want to risk messing up a wheel.

All the black dog touchless washes seem good. There is another one across from super-walmart in somersworth and the one in farmington on rt11.

The best thing to do is go to a do-it-yourself wash on a warm day(35+). I use Optimum No Rinse Wash in the winter whether I have a way to rinse or not. That stuff is an awesome wash lubricant.

Thats what chamois are for Jerry!

Also, my only complaint with Black Dogs, and most auto washing places, drying time is TOO SHORT.

those dryers at the touchless suck...and if you chamois after the do it yourself...bring warm, water proof gloves...did this before and froze my friggen hands almost clean off... thats all im sayin...

did touchless today, little frozen water drops on it when i got it home to the garage...it sure was shiny...and it wasnt all the reflection off the ice.

There is a nice new touchless in Weare on Rt. 114....I've gone through it a couple times....it's pressure is VERY strong, to the point where it sometimes makes me nervous (i'm likely just being a worrywart). But, no issues so far, and it cleanes pretty well, and it gives you 60 seconds of drying time.

In Concord, in the heights, there is a touchless that gives 90 seconds of drying time, which is pretty nice.

What ever you do DO NOT use the one in dover that is also a gas station...I cant remember the name but the big pink building on the corner of central ave and george st. It scratched 3 out of 4 of my new wheels this summer. The owner refused to do anything about the damage and I couldnt even take him to small claims because of a pending deployment. :(
