2001 Subaru Forester L
I finally got the Forester registered and driving again. After well over a year for sale and no serious bites, I have little choice but to drive it again(though it makes for a great tool shed). New plates, a battery, misc. lights, fuel filter and lines, wash and wax, oil change... it's getting there.
Reasons for selling, mainly repairs needed in 10K miles:
rear wheel bearings... $598 for two(ripoff) at Manchester Subaru
rear o2 sensor... ~$200 installed(ripoff) at Manchester Subaru
overheating... new tstat and radiator($457 installed) didn't fix it... I expected headgaskets
clutch was/is going
I still owe on it
15mpg or less in the cityI've got a few more things to accomplish before I can start hitting some rallycrosses...
Inspection - this is the biggie. Gonna need struts for sure, maybe rear brakes... I've never checked the drums
Clutch - typical clutch shudder, it's on it's last legs though it doesn't slip if I don't beat on it
Cooling System - it's got a bubble I guess(I hope), overheats when driven on the highway... could be a bad water pump
Struts - all four leak, the fronts pump up after a few bounces, the rears are dead, left rear makes scary scraping sounds(budget used WRX struts would be handy, wink wink!), I might spring for some KYB GR-2s... they're around $300 shipped on eBay.
Wheels/Tires - I'm riding on my winter setup now... 15x6" steelies with Bridgestone A/Ts, and have a set of super heavy 17x7" Mille Miglias with unmounted 225/45R17 Pirelli all seasons hanging out in storage... neither are appropriate for rally useWho knows where it's going from here. Obviously I'll need to drop some coin on it to be reliable again. I'm leery to dress it up or put any pricey parts on it, as cars here are frequently vandalized, broken into, or stolen. I also have the unfortunate luck of immediately breaking something as soon as I fix an unrelated part; I waxed the hell out of the car yesterday, drove it exactly one block, and some kid chucked a giant PVC pipe into the road in front of me and took off... I'm missing a small chunk of my front bumper now.
Any ideas, encouragement, or cheap parts offers(OEM is good)? I'm about out of ideas and drive to get thing going again. I mainly want to set fire to it, though it'd get me out to WYW once in a while.
