Thanks!
Ya ALL the springs were broken... fronts were worse.
I replaced the springs with H&R sports... i believe it's a .75 drop in the front and .25 in the rear? or maybe that's swapped. I'm borrowing my coworkers spring compressor tonight to finish the installation. I am going to "order my list/add to it" because I'm bored at work.
ya those rims are my favorite... the only other type that I can see on my car are the stock Contours... but these are so much wider and they're 18's and not 17's. I wish they made the Contours the same size as my PG1's, that would be awesome!

Update: Sorry no pictures... camera battery was dead and I'm lazy ;)
Friday: wire-brushed the spring 'cups' and primered them and painted them. also found some surface rust on the inner wheelwell from some rubbing, so I primed and painted those.
Saturday: Me and my buddy installed the new rear springs. put it all back together, and cleaned the garage. also got the moonroof unstuck and opened...
I'll have to post pictures of my stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid job on the moonroof... so disappointed in myself! I used RTB and scotch tape to seal the moonroof... WHAT A MORON!!!!! :spin:
Pulling the moonroof out tonight.... I hope *Crosses fingers*

Well I found a semi-easy way to pull the moonroof, but sadly the inner piece won't come free (like its suppose to in the DIY thing)... SOOO the headliner is coming out...
here's my crapjob of the moonroof.

I had posted it for more just because that's how much it was worth to me :)
I bought it off my friend who bought it from the original owners down in FL, his aunt and uncle. they did the AA gen II exhaust and the Hamann Rims... because they're LOADED... they have a sick Porsche 911...
I had dropped my price to $6500 but no one bited, so I just decided its time to not sell it and start making it new. I was trying to sell it because at the time I had 4+ cars... and I needed to move out of my old apartment due to some irresponsible roomates.
On the plus side, I talked to a guy last night about my piano that's for sale, and he said he could get me some BMW parts as trade as he works at a local dealership... so Now I need to figure out what I need to replace as trade... I'm thinking Radiator, and heater core. That way my entire cooling system will be overhauled.

Nice. I didn't mean to be rude about it, I just remembered seeing it on CL for a lot of $$$ with a lot of problems. I guess it's good you were up front about it. I'd much prefer knowing what needs to be done then figuring it out later. But 6k? If I didn't have the worst insurance rates in the world I would have been all over that.

Ya I've made a lot more headway then last year... at least BMW makes their cars like lego's... so easy to take apart! No idea how much I love working on it... I'm in the groove, and I'm trying to stick with it. as soon as I sell some stuff i'll have money for some parts. :) :)

depends what it is really... the whole sunroof assembly is 600+... not sure how much for any other car... I dont need the whole thing... just small pieces... those clips that are broken are $22 each... i believe... thats dealer cost though... I can probably get them much cheaper used on the bimmer forums.

SIGH... at least he did the fluid changes... and washed/waxed the car all the time... until it sat for 2 years... outside.... in the woods.... with a trashbag on the roof... with rocks on top of that... SIGH
When I'm done with the car, it will look just as good as the first picture, hopefully better. :)

did he just romp on it or a lot of stuff went wrong and he just didnt fix it. how did it end up in the woods, and for 2 years?

02-16-2009, 06:15 PM
He lives in the woods... pretty much... really nasty dirt roads, lots of really large potholes... that never get fixed... basically he was driving home and he snapped the front driverside spring... he managed to drive it all the way to his house... where he parked it just off the side of the driveway... and there it sat for 2 years...
Edit: I haven't looked for any used parts yet... I found a sunroof "cassette" but it's $75 and It sounded like it has the same problem I had... soooo I'm going to hit up a couple junk yards later this week (If they'll let me)... Nice let me know if you spot any ... what yard do you go to? I know of one just outside of Keene, But i'm sure they don't have any bmw's... But the one I normally hit up is about 2 minutes in Mass... Toy City Salvage I believe the place is called... the guys are real nice there, and you can normally talk them down/strike deals w/them.
They have TONS of subaru's there... and the BMW's are right when you walk in... but you can't pick and pull off those cars.. they have to do it... expensive cars... expensive parts :-\ there was a nice Porsche 944 there once with white leather interior... everything looked mint... except for the hood which someone keyed "Bussy" on... used to say something else...
But ya... you pick it and pull it and just bring the piece to them and throw an offer...
I bought a rear spoiler wing for my jetta there once for $25... new they're $150 (at the time)... and no not a huge aluminum wing or anything like that... it was a little black lip piece that just sat on the trunk.
To put this Post back on track, I didn't remove the Dash last night... Started watching Smallville instead... Don't hate!

I think that's in Winchendon Mass, right? There's a junkyard in newport that has plenty of stuff as well.

Yup, I couldnt' think of the town... just know how to drive there. If anyones down in that area, it would be nice if they could go check that place out and see if they have any BMW's in there and if so if they have good sunroof assemblies... and if so could take pictures of it for me to look at... and if so buy it for under $100 and let me know... and then I will provide $100 for it. key there is to get it for like $50 then you just made $50 finders fee ;)

Update:
Well I have been searching for the last couple days for parts, and watching way to many smallville episodes... and I think I've found a parts car that I might be purchasing in the next couple weeks. If I do purchase this car, I'll have 90% of the parts to complete my bmw... sensors, radiator, dash, steeringwheel, driveshaft ujoint thing, sunroof assembly, misc interior parts, etc etc... only thing i'll need to buy is the carpet... which I can get from any E36 car... score for me! good thing is the car will cost me $1000, and when I'm done, I can sell off the remaining parts I can't use but can pull off the chassis before it goes to the scrapyard. Score for me!! All the parts I need... buying separately... would cost me a lot more then that! Should have done this to begin with!

Went to the guys house/factory/huge garage/storage place... OMG his setup is SICKKKKK
got to sit in an E46 (His dad's)... SO SICK... interior looks like Aphrodite's... aka The Sex!.... I <3 that car.... and lets just say I'm now in the market :D... if anyone wants to buy my M3 when it's done... I won't complain.
Anyways back to the real world... Me and my buddy went down there, I pulled the whole heater core assembly out, without breaking it... also got a window switch, new glovebox, new OEM cassette player, radiator, and misc nuts/bolts... his contact for the rug stiffed him for getting it this weekend, so he's going to let me know today if the carpet has been cut... If it has been then I can wait to get it a little longer, and put my new heater core in this week... but if it's not cut... then I need to wait until I get the rug in before I put my new heatercore in. Next on my list, Pull the old heater core assembly out, put new radiator in, buy radiator hose kit. maybe a new clutch fan as well... After that, cooling system will be fully overhauled.
Then it's off to the sunroof assembly.

ANOTHER CRAPPY UPDATE:
the rims are 7.5" not 8.5" ... at least thats what they are stamped on the back... So angry with myself right now... stupid stupid stupid. I guess I'm not destined for a staggered look with contours... I'm going to just get freak'n tires toss them on... and be done... I'll run them as is... should be ok... i'll just have less traction but w/e... who needs traction when you have RWD?
Leaving to MD and then DC Thursday AM... getting back Sunday... after that... I'll get the BMW done in a week! I hope... 18th 19th of april is when I want the car back together.

Update: reassembled the heatercore unit... it's sitting in the car waiting for me to put it back in... I'm going to leave my crap carpet in there for now... and do the typical single cut around the heater core ... so when I get the new carpet... i won't have to take all the stuff out again (Just the front seats which is SUPER easy)... tomorrow the Heatercore assembly goes back in, and the radiator goes back in... also need to source out secondary fan assembly, mine is locked... which could definitely explain the overheating when idle... that and maybe my fan clutch is done... both should be cheap and easy to fix. yay! No pics today... sorry guys.
ALSO, going to leave the sunroof out temporarily, and get some cheap window seal to put around the sunroof so I can just put that in... and then when I really want to put it all back together, i can. but for now... Don't care.

Updated: Last night, I put the heater assembly back in, have that bolted back down.
bolted the steering column support back in (though I came across 4 similar bolts so I'm unsure which goes where... I epic fail at labeling)... going to put all the stuff back together on the passenger side, then the dash will be ready to go back in. I HOPE I don't forget to put something in... and I HOPE my heatercore doesn't leak when I fill it all up... maybe I'll test that before I put the dash back in... good think'n... Radiator stuff goes back in tonight... need to get new radiator hoses, and clamps. So much to do, I'll get a bunch done tonight... I hope.

Update:
Hooked the heatercore up, put in the radiator, reinstalled everything in the engine compartment... filled it up with water, turned the car on... started overheating... obvious cause is lots of air in the system... so I had my roomate turn the hose on and let it flood the overflow tank... finally got all the air out... my car runs, gets to temp... sits there for a little while and then starts to overheat... I'm excited!!!!
my auxiliary fan is broken (frozen), so when I get that replaced, I shouldn't have any problems with it!!! it won't overheat anymore when i'm idling !!! SCORE!!!
I assembled my sunroof cassette together (added the panel to the new cassette) and cleaned/regreased the channels... it's ready to go in today... then I can put the new sunroof seal on, and hopefully it won't leak at all... then the headliner goes back in... and then the dash goes on. hopefully I can get a good scan of everything before that happens to make sure none of the wires are messed up.
after that... new tires on my contours... not running staggered I guess.. oh well...
about that time, new brakes should be arriving... as well as new aux fan. then my car will be on the road for summer fun! SCORE! I need to start taking pictures again.

Nope, not me...
BAD UPDATE: the sunroof cassette I got doesn't fit... it's not the same size... SOOOOO whoever said the sedan cassette will fit the coupe... THEY LIE!!! another Epic fail... so now I have to rip all the guts out... remember how they go... and put it all in my old cassette body... so now I have to drill out rivets and reinstall them, one hassle I really did not want to deal with... oh well... guess now it's a perfect time for a DIY sunroof mechanics removal/install.

Update: ALSO yesterday I sent my rims in to get mounted with some tires... SCORE for me!
>>>> $350 = 4 new tires + mount and balance <<<<
DAMN STRAIGHT I WENT CHEAPO ON THE TIRES!
they look sweet though, so hopefully they perform well... size= 235/40 R17, speed rating V... I think i'm all set.
Also I was focused on the negative last night... buttt I did pull the BMW out and drive it down the road... yes it didn't have a dash or sunroof or pass seat... but it drove... I noticed a slight sag on the rear driver side though, so I dunno why... I just replaced the rear springs... so maybe they haven't settled right? or something... i'll check when I put on the new tires. new brakes coming soon :)
Tonight my plans are to put on my new rims/tires, and make a DIY on how to pull the sunroof apart once the cassette is out of the car.

Update:
so I FINALLY got the sunroof all situated... it works, barely.. I'm not going to use it much so I don't care... got the sunroof in, headliner in, all the pieces holding it up in, tonight I will put the Dash in.
Found out that my Brakes were shipped out this morning, and they are expected to reach my house by Thursday. yay!
This coming weekend hopefully the car will be almost done... still need to figure out the ABS light and the airbag light. hmmmmm
Edited the first page too

the Bimmerforums BLOW btw... you hardly ever get any help on it, and it's always criticism about how you're going to F up your car unless its done this way or that.

I've already figured out the speedometer issue (I called a guy to confirm the input is only in coming from the rear diff sensor... so its a dead wire somewhere... just need to trace it)
I need some answers regarding the electric fans... also located here:

Update: dashboard going in, trying to find out what screws go where :-\... I definitely should of labeled them a little better!... its almost all in... just trying to remember what screws were in the top by the vent... there were 3 of them... and I can't find them :-\... also don't remember what ones they were... Shucks!
I guess really it doesn't matter, as long as the dash is held down :)
should be in before I go to bed tonight.

Dash is in.
about 6 more parts to put in the interior, then it's time for the Brakes, and hopefully fixing the speed sensor. after thats done, the Aux fan motor should arrive, and I'll be putting that back in... I need the codes scanned, the new radiator hoses put in, and a coolant flush and oil change.... the Guibo needs to be replaced eventually... but whatever... i can do that later.

Everything's back in! well... for the most part... Aux fan is out... and some misc covers and bolts/screws are out still... not sure where they go but whatever... now I just need a lug bolt set... mine are to long because the Hamann's needed longer bolts... so now they rub on the brake dust cover when the car moves... sounds horrible... hopefully i can pick those up tomorrow... along with changing my insurance... and swapping out the radiator hoses and putting good coolant in... need to change my oil too... kinda forgot about a filter i think... hopefully i bought one the other day...

LATE UPDATE:
I put on my brakes... Awhile ago hahaha
Also put on my Contour Rims/tires, had to get new bolts for the front as mine were to long (Hamann's are a little wider I guess)
Got my speedometer working... turns out both lines that run from the sensor to the instrument panel are cut somewhere... probably the same with my ABS sensor... but I haven't found the cut yet... haven't really looked hard yet... I temporarily ran wires from the good section to the cluster and it's working now.
Have a scantool coming in tomorrow (I HOPE!)... that can scan and reset EVERYTHING in my BMW... EVERYTHING!!!!!!! ABS AIRBAG< ETC ETC ETC ETC!! It can scan and reset MOST BMW's so if anyone else here has some funky problems with their BMW, pm me and I'll see if I can scan it....
still need some misc. interior trim pieces... still need a new carpet, but i've put it on hold... spent a lot of money the past couple weeks. STILL need to get pictures

Bumping this thread back to life,
my radiator exploded a couple weeks ago (last month really)
CarQuest (or bond?) actually had an M3 radiator in stock! I luckly even blew the radiator right there, so I pulled in, bought it, and installed it in their parking lot... I celebrated later that day at the pig roast we threw... it was a grand old time.
moving on... Now the BMW is for sale. see the for sale thread in the member classified area. I hate to see it go, but I can't wait to drive my new toy around!

Bumping this back alive... I am planning on tearing the motor out this winter, and boosting the bmw... we'll see how long that dream lasts (how long the money lasts)
Plans are to gut the interior (basically the rear of the car... leave the seats dash doorpanels), turbocharge it, cage it (possibly), and toss some WIDE tires in the rear... hopefully widebody it

Final bump on this one, I'm going to start a new thread when I start tearing the motor apart... don't wanna add to the huge list on page 1... nor delete the list as there are some stuff not completed that I still want to complete (and I wanna keep track of stuff i've replaced/fixed)
