DIY for the win. That way you can make sure it is done the way you want it and you can make sure and paint the area so to avoid rust. Thinking about rolling your rears?

I am down as I need one too. We can make it a spark plug, fender roll, headlight clearing day!

I PMed Rooster the other day and he offered up his roller and heat gun. We should try to pick a date to get this done.
I know I need my rears rolled but I'm not positive about my fronts. I'll be running BC Racing Coilovers and 18x8.5 Rotas with +35 offset and 255/35 tires. Anyone have an idea on if I'll need the fronts rolled?
So what kind of time frame we looking at for most people? I'll want mine done by end of March.

I am game for whenever the temp is going to like us bending metal and not flaking paint. We CAN get it done in the shop, but its going to have to be sat after noon or sunday anytime. Weekdays the shop is used until 5 pm and I am sure no one wants to drive a distance to work that late.

paint never likes to be bend..lol anytime before the end of march will work. im leaving round april 3rd.
might even go get a hitch put on the car 2morow.

Man, LMK when this is happening, I was just thinking about rolling some of my fenders last nite. And I would so bake and black my 01 headlites. Don't know about spark plug rolling though, never heard of that, lol.

thanks everyone!!! now how much of a process is it? I need to do both front and rear. the reason is I want to have my wheels stick out a little bit, to have that aggresive look. so get a 9" wheel, different offset and some cambers or spacers. now how good is that for my car in the long run??? im going to be driving a lot to the car shows, canada, maryland, oswego NY, I don't want to have to change my tires EVERY season... nor hurt it some how... help me out! what do you guys think??

my car has been dying for a roll for the past 4 years!
i vote fender rolling day at Murphs!
Rooster

Hence the reason for the heat gun. Heated paint bends easier.
Disclaimer: Myself nor my tools will not be responsible for cracked paint. You bend at your own risk ;)

02-17-2009, 08:09 PM
My vote is for one of the following:
March 7th or 8th
March 21st or 22nd
Is there any way to tell how much fender rolling will be needed without mounting the tires and bringing them along? Or is the best option to mount em, bring a couple with for test fitting?
Also, my coilovers may not be installed by the time we do this, will that create an issue?
Headlight clearing too?

Headlight clearing needs to be done at my house. might be a two day venture. It took me like 3 hours to do my lights. If we have 3 cars to do, with 5-6 people, we can prolly clear them all in half a day. No clue how long rolling will take, we can do that and the rest of the tech work at the shop.
Robk0000
02-17-2009, 08:22 PM
maybe we can mount my lip too? i cant do it without having the car up in the air.

Bad news....after some serious research, looking like unless I get coils or new wheels with a different offset, 275's aren't going to work for me. :( Oh well.

Roll'ns for pussies. Break out the MIG's, Tourches, scrap metal, and other stuff and go for widebody! I know I am. Good luck guys. I know I just did the old baseball bat roll when I had the coilovers on the GF. Didn't much care what the long term on the fenders was so it worked out for me. Now however I"ll be a one of a kind. Anyone ever seen a GF with WRC matched widebody fenders?(Not HTAuto's wussie widebody)

Work'n on it. Rear bumper is coming soon aswell as arch exoframing so I can make sure everything flows the same. Will be doing a lot of custom work in the rear to match everything up.

Wow, wouldn't -2 in the front give you some bad oversteer? Maybe not on AWD, I dunno.

Subis understeer something bad at times so no worries. Also depends on the ENTIRE rest of the suspension set up. Just a matter of balance.

I have the tein SS coilovers with the EDFC. i will be doing more suspension work soon once i find another job.... is a 42 offset and a 9"wheel with the cambers a good set up?

Just FYI, unless you're talking about camber/crash bolts, camber is just a measurement of the vertical angle of the tires on the car. It's a singular, just "camber".

thanks! . im trying to get that look with the wheel sticks out a little bit. im just not sure the proper way to do it.... when i was talking about camber i was talking about the previous msg when i said -2.0 front and -1.7 rear. I was being lazy and didn't want to retype the numbers lol

To get the entire wheel to stick out? Those would be spacers. If you just want this look -> /-----\ ...you need camber bolts, unless your car has slotted knuckles/struts.

if you want your wheels to stick out more just go with a lower offset rim.
i can send you pics of my car with 18x8 with either 45 or 38 offsets. if you do the old datsun look /---\ your tires will wear down like crap and will tram like a biatch on the highway.
this with a 18x7 rim with the 38 offset.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y116/67GTOchick/june%202007/wagon083.jpg
see how the rears are more "flush" with a lower offset and a 1" narrower rim.

How is it to use the roller rooster? I plan to roll my rears a little later on. Only crappy part in on 05's you have the over fenders which wont fit back on after you bend the fender. Soon I will know though when I experiment with this rolling/cutting idea.

Dunno, never used it. Rob's got a virgin!
I was wondering how this was going? I need to roll my rears on my 08. the lip is just barely rubbing on one side and slowly shaving the sidewall of my 18s. :unamused: I am worried about my paint too, so I wouldn't mind paying a pro to do it. anyone know of any in seacoast nh/southern maine?

Make sure you reaaally need it. If you haven't, I would look at some pictures of GRs with rolled fenders, the transition in the rear fender from rolled metal to plastic looks awkward as hell.
What do you have for suspension? You can fit a 9.5" rim with a 265 tire without rubbing with stock-ish suspension with proper fitament.
