California is the first state that is attempting to pass legislation that would ban the sale of television sets that don’t meet their new efficiency standards. The proposal of the California Energy Commission is attempting to gain approval over the summer and go into effect as early as January 2011. The way that the law would work is that there would be a cap placed on how much power a television set uses while in active mode, in lieu of the regulation that now places on a set’s power consumption in standby mode. The standards would go into effect with a two tier system. The first tier scheduled for January 2011 would have each 0.156 square inches of screen area cap off at 80 watts. The second tier scheduled for January 2013 would not permit more than 25 watts for each 0.12 square inch.
TV companies, especially plasma set manufacturers, which the law seems to target, have not been pleased by the proposal and feel that Energy Star policies that they have currently been following are more than sufficient. However, the California Energy Commission thinks that the second tier would bring down energy usage as much as 49 percent and save residents an average of $18 to $30 annually per TV set.

its all the environmentalists and hippies.. Vermonts almost just as bad sometimes.

If it at all has even the slightest bit of effect on the environment even if its not bad. These people usually pop up and start *****ing about everything.
These are the same people that are mostly responsible for the ethanol in our fuel. but thats another case and story all together..

My solution to californias problem here is.... GET OFF YOUR ASS GO OUTSIDE AND ENJOY LIFE YOU LAZY BUMS!
Sorry but tv isn't your life. And what pisses me off is people that live in nice climate areas (such as LA and San Fransisco in this case) with more things to do then i think theres number out there for but yet complain that they are always bored and are sitting on their fat ass trying to see if their chairs or couches can consume them.
While up here in the northern country when it gets cold out most of us have no other choice. Cause we don't wanna freeze our ass's off unless we have (i.e. goto the store or goto work or something like that).

So the lesson in this is.... Go for drive enjoy the open road.
If you can't afford the insane california gas prices (which some say is the thanks from those same environmentalists and hippies). Then go for a bike ride... or go for a walk.. go shopping... whatever.

Problem solved california... on to the next case.

Sounds like Vermont and our NPP.

Honestly, in a situation like that, if the legislation did get passed I think the manufacturers should just say "oh well, the hell with you" and stop selling screens in California altogether. Eventually Californians will get so sick of not being able to watch an HDTV, they'll overthrow their own state government.
