View Full Version : I'm a nerd...

...just like John (Proxy). My nerdiness is actually greater then his.

Yesterday my new toy came in the mail. I bought myself one of these puppies: http://www.hotbodiesonline.net/kit.php?partNo=hb55400&lang=en

It's a 4wd Electric 1/10th scale Radio Controlled Car. Well actually this is just the kit, which means no electronics are included (radio, motor, batteries, receiver, servo), in fact no wheels and tires are with the kit. It's basicly the "drivetrain" (or pulleys), chassis and suspension. The kit is usually around $450 or so. I got a great deal on ebay for it at $250 shipped.

This is going to be a project to build a pretty good race capable car. I'll be racing it at the indoor carpet track in York Maine this winter when the season starts again. I'm pretty psyched, and I'm a nerd, it's just how I roll.

How does that make you a nerd?

Maybe if you collected stamps or wilfred brimley memorabelia I would call you a nerd.

I'd say that isn't nerdy... if you hold a LOOOOOONG arguement with another grown man (over the internet from your bedroom in your mother's basement) as to the pro/cons of the recent Star Wars movies as opposed to the first 3, and why you think that Tatooine is in imminent danger in future movies, *then* you're a nerd. "Empire is better!" "No, Jar Jar Binx did NOT ruin that movie, you're a fag! He was a complex and fascinating character."

First 3 are better, btw. And real men buy 4wd R/C chassis. What are you getting for a body?

TrickyDik

Not sure about body. It will be similar to most sedan class bodies such as: http://www.hbeurope.com/feature.php?partNo=66811&lang=en

One is a Mazda 6 and the other is a Dodge Stratus. Surprisingly those are the more popular styles in RC for touring car racing. Reason being is their nice aerodynamics. The shells are just sweet. Not sure if I'll try my hand at painting one or perhaps ordering a painted one. Maybe I'll try both.

Geek?

And yes, real men drive 4wd RC cars.

My buddy had a model boat that had a little combustion engine that ran on Nitro fuel. Pretty radical. Hehe.

I was going to go with a 1/8th scale off-road buggy that runs 20% nitro/fuel mixture.

That'll be next year, those things are really fast and fly high off he jumps.

This car is going to be my club racer up at york. I'll invite anyone up there with me once the car is running. I'm going to purchase a track pass there which allows me 24 hour access to the indoor track 7 days a week and 365 days a year.

Thats a little video of my boat this past winter. I'm going to be getting a traxxas revo 3.3 soon. I've always loved RC's, but my girlfriend hates them. She thinks they're for little kids!

The radioslut ones are for little kids, these ones are for the bigs kids.

EDIT: Proxy get a touring sedan so you can race with me this winter. I'm pretty much new to it but learning as I go. I did off-road bashing when I was younger but my old man assembled that kit.

So i just picked up a 1/10 scale on-road car. It's a Team Associate TC3 team car. I got it with 2 batteries, a charger and old as stick remote and the car. The car has an older Novak reactor ECS with the old airtronics Rx and servo and the motor is a trinity 21T green machine. It hauls ?WTF?, but that old crap radio makes it really hard to run. It's very glitchy. It won't even go strait. oh well. It was well worth what i got it for. Oh yea, i already blew up one of the old batteries!

I was at a skate park in portsmouth and just had to launch it from the half pipe. It didn't break till it fell off the side and landed up side down. I have a new rear shock tower on order from maximus so it'll be up and running next friday.

Pretty sure those type of cars aren't suppose to do that. My car is gone, sold it, had no time to work on it. I was psyched but just couldn't even find time to build the thing fully.

Priorities are on paying all my bills off and getting in shape and ready for police testing.

Yea they arn't really meant to do it, but it was doing it pretty damn well till i screwed up. It was taking smaller jumps without bottoming out. Like 1 foot or less. I want to buy a rally suspension for it for 55 bucks. It makes it wider and give it over and inch of ground clearance. The kit comes with longer arms and shock. It's a pretty sweet deal but going to have to wait a couple of weeks. I'm spending $500 on a new RC truck within the week. I just have to decide which one. An electric E Maxx, or a Revo 3.3 I just can't decide.

Jon, you were complaining about not having a good job to put money into your car, but you have more R/C toys than tower hobbies

And soon to be another $500 toy. I swear I remember someone saying they didn't have the $20 for WBM.

ive got a nitro HPi savage ss, It goes 55 mph and is faster in a straight line then my brothers cobalt :)

$450 for the kit, then another 150 next year after we toasted the motor, and the transmsission sand some drive shafts. i guess rockclimbing should be done with those that are built for the purpose?

Picked up a Traxxas Revo 3.3 yesterday from Maximus RC in York. I'm heading out in a little while to break the motor in. It's going to be fun as hell! I wonder what i'll break first on it...

Head over to Maximus RC in york. I had to go back up yesterday to get some spare plugs and a fuel bottle.

I got it running yesterday. Took me about an hour to break it in. I had some trouble tuning it at first. It just wouldnt run right and i had no idea what i was doing. So i changed the filter and man, did that make a difference! I also adjusted to 2 speed a little and lean it out some. Man does that thing fly! I still need to get it tuned right though. It seems a little lean down low and i'm having a hard time adjusting the idle. It won't come down. Today should be a much nicer day for it anyway. I'll try it again this afternoon and if i can't get it right, i'll call up traxxas, they have AWESOME customer service. They'll listen to the truck over the phone and tell you exactly what to do with it.
