This is an actual radio call I received the other day while at work.
By law, if anyone between me and the Search and Rescue Mission Coordinator (about 5 or 6 people total) think that a call is not a hoax but in fact a distress call we are then required to prosecute the case. That includes making call-outs to the vessel in distress, attempting to determine a searchable area and launching Coast Guard assets if a searchable area was determined.
Needless to say, out of 5 people, not one thought this to be a real distress call. Take a listen and I think you will agree.
You must have Macromedia Flash installed to listen to this audio file. (http://www.supload.com/listen?s=SdITWebIbOz)
