MA State Police for the most part are dicks. I've only meet one cool one who stopped me for my tail light being out in my RX8 and talked to me for about 20 minutes about my car. Hopefully he feels the same way about the WRX :)

Get something that looks more stock. I had a Prodrive for a long time with no issues, and I've been stopped twice now (State/Northfield) in the new one with my Catless DP/SPT and had no mention of it.

According to MA state law it is illegal to have a modified and/or non OEM exhaust. We are one of the few states who don't abide by the 95-97 decibel rule. (well, not technically)

I ordered a BNIB SPT exhaust from Subaru. Hopefully it's worth the money. (560 bones y0)

Chapter 90: Section 16. Offensive or illegal operation of motor vehicles


Section 16. No person shall operate a motor vehicle, nor shall any owner of such vehicle permit it to be operated, in or over any way, public or private, whether laid out under authority of law or otherwise, which motor vehicles are prohibited from using, provided notice of such prohibition is conspicuously posted at the entrance to such way. No person shall operate a motor vehicle, nor shall any owner of such vehicle permit it to be operated upon any way, except fire department and fire patrol apparatus, unless such motor vehicle is equipped with a muffler to prevent excessive or unnecessary noise, which muffler is in good working order and in constant operation, and complies with such minimum standards for construction and performance as the registrar may prescribe. No person shall use a muffler cut-out or by-pass. No person shall operate a motor vehicle on any way which motor vehicle is equipped (1) with a muffler from which the baffle plates, screens or other original internal parts have been removed and not replaced; or (2) with an exhaust system which has been modified in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the exhaust. No person operating a motor vehicle shall sound a bell, horn or other device, nor in any manner operate such motor vehicle so as to make a harsh, objectionable or unreasonable noise, nor permit to escape from such vehicle smoke or pollutants in such amounts or at such levels as may violate motor vehicle air pollution control regulations adopted under the provisions of chapter one hundred and eleven. No siren shall be mounted upon any motor vehicle except fire apparatus, ambulances, vehicles used in official line of duty by any member of the police or fire fighting forces of the commonwealth or any agency or political subdivision thereof, and vehicles owned by call fire fighters or by persons with police powers and operated in official line of duty, unless authorized by the registrar. No person shall use on or in connection with any motor vehicle a spot light, so called, the rays from which shine more than two feet above the road at a distance of thirty feet from the vehicle, except that such a spot light may be used for the purpose of reading signs, and as an auxiliary light in cases of necessity when the other lights required by law fail to operate.
No person, except a duly authorized person driving an emergency fire vehicle, shall operate a motor vehicle equipped with metal studded tires upon a public way between May the first and November the first; provided, however, the registrar may authorize the use of such tires before November the first, if weather conditions require the use thereof. Whoever violates the provisions of this paragraph shall be punished by a fine of not more than fifty dollars.

As stated by the poster, it had nothing to do with the sound and everything to do with the way it looks. Since it didn't look stock, the cop gave him the ticket. He is the FIRST person I have ever seen get a ticket for this. In the Boston area, every single honda civic hatchback can be heared from across the city. Sad thing is, I'm not exaggerating too much.

My friend had one of the loudest exhausts I have heared. He got **** once for noise pollution. It was around midnight and he was WOT down a side street.

Fact is, they use it as an excuse to see if they can catch you with something else, more serious to add to their "jacket" (drugs, DUI, warrant, firearms, w/e)

Just like the new seat belt law,

*sniff *sniff* "Smells like marijuana, please step out of the vehicle sir and stand by the gaurd rail."

now you weren't swerving, you weren't lighting up while cruising down I-91, you aren't carrying weight, but there you are, getting *****ed because he "saw" you not wear your seatbelt.

I don't smoke anymore, and when a smiliar situation happend to me I had been "sober" for over 2 years. There were NO drugs in the car, but I got pulled over and the officer proceeded to break my rear seats while removing them and tell me to:

"...Shut up and get your **** put away. Take your exhaust ticket. Be lucky I didn't get you for your ride height, I could have your license and plates suspended for that."

Yea, I exchanged some words with the officer because he threatened to have my friends kid taken away from her (who's daughter was with her father at the time) because he "smelt weed" (again, total BS)

I have also been told that if I "...don't put the stock exhaust on I'm going to notify your insurance and have them cancel you."

Cops are wacked (most), and Staties are some of the worse.

Apparently in Boston, 7 out of 10 vehicles get a break everyday. How can companies LEGALLY sell them like Lou's Custom Exhaust? I could understand if they were mandated to ask you "Will you be driving this on the road?" and you needed to say no for them to install it, but that doesn't happen. I guess the Boston area cops/staties are more laid back or actually have other things more important to do than give people tickets for exhausts that aren't obnoxious.

worked on the 240 today, made new battery cables for both pos and neg, mounted the fan on the radiator, put sea foam in the intake manifold, fuel filter (new filter), and also the tank and let it work its magic while it ran for 5 minutes. Found a upper hose that worked after I cut it up, swap'd out the old stat, and filled the system with antifreeze :up:

got a bunch done and it finally moved under its own power :eek:

now I'm off to start sheetrocking my house :palm: hate sheetrock...

i have a 42" deck on my riding mower, and .50 acre, its not overkill at all.
