Hey everyone. I am getting a brand new Invidia uppipe for free and I am wondering what needs to be done for it to not throw a CEL. From what my friend has told me, I need to only purchase a spacer for the EGT bung so the CEL doesn't get thrown.

My only concern with picking up this great product for free nonetheless, is running into issues when inspection time rolls around. I am already running an Invidia catless downpipe, so I must switch to the stock downpipe already when inspection rolls around and there is no way I will have the time or patience to swap uppipes.

If anyone has any comments on what I can do to make the CEL on the uppipe to not be thrown, it would be greatly appreciated. Granted too, my car has not been tuned.

You don't need a spacer for the EGT. That's a rear o2 sensor fix. If you put it back in, there will be no CEL for that. If you choose to plug the hole instead of use the EGT, you can reflash the car to eliminate the code for EGT (P1312) and for no cats (P0420) while you're at it.

If you're gonna do an UP you should do a DP at the same time.

What Pulski and Bu11dogg said are true I would do both up/downpipes at the same time then go into the ecu and reflash the car so you wont get any cels. I've done it on a few cars.

Both my 04 and my 09 have had it done, although the stock UP is fine on the 09, so I left it alone. :)

He already has an Invidia catless. ;)

There won't be a CEL for the stock uppipe or do you mean if I do the Invidia UP? I've gotten the P0420 code already just running the stock UP and the Invidia DP.

How would I go about plugging it? By putting a piece of rubber or a bolt in it?

And yes, already running a Invidia DP with a CEL, only clear it when I put the stock back in for inspection. What I really meant to say if I am running the stock DP with the Invidia UP is a CEL going to be thrown?

i am running an hks up pipe and i blocked the hole for the egt. all you need to do is get a resistor and put it in the plug of the where the egt would plug into. i haven't had a cel once for the egt

Just your basic resistor from radio shack? How did you go about hooking that up?

What is the CEL fix? 2.2 KOhm 1/2 watt resistor. These are available at Radio Shack and are usually in stock. $1 buys you 6 of them. You place it in the EGT connector, which is the bottom connector just forward of your passenger side tower. It only has two holes, so jam one end of the resistor into each. If you do not use this resistor, you will probably end up with the CEL code P0546 = Exhaust Gas Circuit Malfunction (High Input). ***NOTE***There are two CEL fixes for the WRX, the other one is the rear CEL code P0420 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold, this code being caused by the lack of a catalytic converter in the downpipe. This is usually fixed with an electrical fix or mechanical fix. This notice, though not important to this thread, acknowledges there are two "CEL fixes" and defines them individually to avoid possible confusion.

What engine management are you going to use? COBB?

Thank you for your input. I have not worked on this region of my suby so all information is definitely helpful. This clears it up for me. I have already dealt with the P0420 code, and already swap DP's for this problem, I am only concerned with when the car is inspected. After it gets inspected I will ride dirty till next inpection time. I will definitely grab some resistors and give this a shot. Thanks again.

Currently, I am not running a management system, I plan on getting a Accessport

Once you get that, the P0420 will go away.

Alright awesome, I have also found instructions on how to put the resistor into the EGT plug. Seems straightforward enough for me. I will give you all details on the install once I receive the pipe
