Ewwww. I knew they'd have to push the wheelbase forward a bit to fit the AWD, but this looks like a retarded duck. The Toyota version doesn't have a roof that tall. What the hell? I pray to god this is just a chassis mule and not an indication of the final body style.

RWD.... They would need to redesign the AWD system to think of making this chasis AWD viable. In otherwords they need to talk to Porsche...

.... Regardless they need to talk to Porsche! I WANT DIRRECT PORT FUEL INJECTED H6 WITH VARIABLE INTAKE AND EXHAUST CAMS NOW!!!!!!

The more I look at it, the more I'm sure it's just a chassis mule. It's just too wonky for even Subaru's misinformed designers to produce. Here's two renderings I've seen floating around the interwebs.

^^^I'll take one it Garnet Red Metalic please!

As for concept artwork... you should see some of the SVX stuff. REALLY out there stuff...
This is obviously a test chasis being run on the track. You can see all the black tape and even make out the fake lines and bolstering of added extentions to the body to "hide" the final shape of the car. I really wish it would be finalized as the concept are above or as that first solid concept image that popped up "officially" done up in orange.

That small niche market is probably the reason Subaru/Toyota is even making this thing. A pure sports car is badly needed out there to soak up the small amount open market left for those that aren't hurting so bad and basicly are looking at just buying older sports cars to mod cause they don't see anything they like.
I have to post up a pic a friend forwarded me of the FT86 with a nice little black and white paintjob. Come on who knows what I"m talking about? ;)

Nice contradiction.

A "pure" sports car is a car that doesn't worry about having crazy amounts of power or torque, a "pure" sports car has RWD, low weight, no more than 2 seats, revs to the stratosphere, and is just plain fun to drive in ways that cannot be explained to people who have never driven one. From what I've read, they're planning a turbo 2L, which is not the engine this thing needs, too much weight (same problem an H6 would pose.) A 200HP engine that could rev to 7500 - 8000 would be ideal, and it would make for one helluva fun sports car.

There is a reason you'll never see people who drove old British sports cars -- the original sports cars, call any modern car short of a Miata or S2000 a sports car.

Last I heard it wasn't a turbo, only that everyone and the grandmother on like NASIOC and other such forums. I've only ever heard positive word on it being the new EL series H4 2.0L with 200HP. And yes I agree it needs not more. If people want ot race with them they will nodoubtedly add a turbo or swap it or what ever. As for the H6... I just like a "big" NA motor with a good fun chassis. My dream car is a 68' Shelby AC Super Cobra 427. :D.......:( I'll never be able to afford one.

I've heard so much random crap about this car, I don't even know what's going on anymore. A 2.0L H4 with 200HP would fit the car perfectly with a RWD setup, but last I heard the Subaru version would be AWD only. Whatever, I'll know for sure when they're actually out.

Good choice in dream car. I can definitely forsee people throwing in bigger better engines down the road if the stock offerings come up short. I'd guess you'd see a lot of turbo H4 swaps in them, just like older GC's.
I tend to hate Subaru's H6 offerings because they have the same shortcomings as the 4 cylinder N/A's. Low comparable power output to similar engines on the market, and downright wimpy internals compared to the turbo engines. The problem with H.6's is that they end up requiring $Texas in custom parts to deal with boost, and there really is no market for them (N/A or boosted) to speak of. In addition, they're a complete ***** to mount into EJ-powered cars because of all the differences between them, hence why they are a much rarer swap.

It's a side note to this thread, but what Subaru needs to do is revamp the current lineup, and provide the WRX with the current STi motor, and look into going big on the STi to keep up with competition. Something like a factory turbo H6 would be amazing, and provide great drivelines for swaps, especially if they made the mounts and such match up with the EJ series.

Agreed there Chris. Once I finish with my EZ swap the only thing I'll replace it with after all the hard work and fabrication having been done for internals and piping and wiring would be a new H6 with direct port fuel injection and variable valve timing on both intake and exhaust like the EL's are supposed to have. Increased output, fuel economy, and supposedly even easier to keep massive torque. I haven't heard anything about an H6 version yet though. A H6 Turbo would indeed be nice but might be too much for the general market. :o Considering there are 600whp EZ30R's out there that aren't even really maxxed on what you can do with them... mostly cause people hit their goals or don't have any money left after or even before hitting that point.
