Last year i removed my door panels to install my speakers, I had them off when i brought the car in for inspection, the guy said it would fail without door panels? was he being serious, because im considering stripping my interior, making simple door panels like the ones on the SRT STi, and then doing a roll cage but leaving the seats, including the rear. If i was to do this not only would i save 500 lbs, but i would also gain mpg and the car would be better.
Anyone know more information about inspection failure because of no interior peices?
also, this is what im predicting for the interior at the moment.

I raise the BS flag. Door panels aren't safety equipment, and removing them in no way demeans the crash worthiness of the vehicle. Your inspection guy is full of ****.

call up synaptic and ask them. I know they have done cages in street cars.

Ya, i think the guy was full of ****....I have never heard of that before. Ive done inspections myself many, many times, and have never heard of that law.

well i didnt mean that theere was a law against it, just he said it was a safety hazard because of all the metal exposure, i guess he meant you could cut yourself pretty good on the door panels, since they didnt have covers and such.
ill see what im going to do?

Door panels are like accessories. Toss em. I have seen street legal drag car with nothing but door handles. Must be legal to an extent.

Well, he has a point... your padded OEM door panels are there as much for added safety against soft tissue damage and lacerations in a crash as much as they're there for looks, but as you say, you'll be fabbing up some sort of inner door covering anyway.

Just find the rules online about that stuff and read them. It usually takes a while but you can find the inspection criteria after looking hard enough. I know I have found it before.

For my state I refer to various sections of the MRSA statues. Like through this website
http://janus.state.me.us/legis/
New Hampshire is the RSA
http://www.gencourt.state.nh.us/ie/
The NH site is pretty easy to use. It has a good working search function that will take you to the specific statue that is relevant to what you care about at the moment.

autopower I think you can get one for around 400 but shipping sucks balls.
I would go weld in. I have seen a after of a sti with a bolt in cage and it looked scary how much the floor got pushed down at a 30 mph rollover.
I'll be going with a welded back half cage in my sti but thats gonna be 2-3k

Kevin

oh you don't need a roll bar for that.
I know for my year sti you can get harness bars that bolt were your stock seatbelts sliders go. not sure about your gc but there from 150-450.

Alot of the belt manufactorers recommend a 30 degree angle for mounting or securing the belts too, which would be nessicary to create the safest seatbelt. otherwise you could actually create more damage on yourself. (i read this on nasioc)

go full cage. go big or go home, you're going to need one eventually for your plans. and do it right.

i looked at that one and something very similar, i think the only differnce was the placement of the vertical support braces. I got one that was about $5 cheaper and black. And it said it was for a GC only... so i guess there was a difference?
