I'm not sure if there is a switch in the tranny. Most likely you'll find a switch near the shifter. When the shifter is shifting in reverse, is completes an electrical circuit to ground.

is it easy to get to ? can u get to it by just taking off the shifter boot ? or is it more complicated cuz i need to get them to work b4 i get it inspected this Monday
don't forget to check the fuse box - might just be a blown fuse

I haven't had to change one on my subaru, so I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the switch is on the tranny. Here's an example on a VW.

check the link below for the manual transmission back up light switch - think it's the one on top

I just fixed this on our RS (Megs). It was plugged in under the hood and ran back to the tranny. I took pics I will find them
